Those walking boots will get a good workout during this hike through the Samaria Gorge. This 16km-long ravine is the longest in Europe. So it's a serious – but spectacular – five to six-hour trek that's not for the unfit or faint-hearted. You'll start by driving through the White Mountains to your starting point – the Xyloskalo staircase, which zigzags some 200 meters down into the gorge. You'll pass tiny chapels, walk between the high ravine walls and maybe spot some of Crete's wild ‘kri-kri' goats. The highlight though, is the ‘Iron Gates' – the narrowest section of the gorge where the 300-metre-high walls stand just 3 meters apart. At the end, you'll reach the seaside village of Agia Roumeli, where if you've made good time, you can take a swim or relax in a taverna. Then, when everyone's ready, you'll catch a boat along the coast to where your coach awaits. Great for outdoor types.

What makes this tour truly special is the variety of authentic Cretan experiences packed into one relaxed half-day journey. Guests don’t simply taste local products—they meet the family producers behind them, step inside working workshops, and discover how olive oil soap, extra virgin olive oil, wine, and raki are still made using knowledge passed down through generations. Travelling in a small group through the beautiful Peza Valley allows for personal attention, genuine conversation, and unhurried tastings. With convenient hotel-area transfers and four iconic Cretan products in one experience, it feels less like an organised tour and more like being welcomed into the homes and traditions of local families. In Crete, after all, hospitality usually begins with a story—and ends with a glass of raki.

This experience stands apart because it doesn’t rush you through staged “highlights” - it lets you live a day the way Cretan families have always shared it: slowly, honestly, and with both feet in the real world. You’re not just peeking into a cave; you’re walking into a chapter of Crete’s story. You’re not just watching reptiles; you’re giving your kids a safe adventure they’ll actually talk about later. And at the honey farm and olive mill, you meet real producers who open their doors the old-fashioned way, with warmth, pride, and no tourist gloss. Every stop is chosen because it offers something hands-on, heartfelt, and genuinely fun for families. The mix of myth, wildlife, sweet tastings, and village hospitality turns the day into a tapestry of textures - cool stone, warm honey, fresh oil, and a table set with food that tastes like someone’s grandmother still guards the recipe. It’s not a manufactured “family activity.” It’s Crete, shared with you the right way.
