Begin your journey from Agios Nikolaos, driving along the beautiful Mirabello Bay to the picturesque fishing village of Elounda. From there, board a traditional boat (20 minutes) to the historic island of Spinalonga — once a Venetian fortress and later known as Leper Island, where patients from Crete and the rest of Greece were quarantined until 1957. Explore the island’s ancient walls, stone houses, and panoramic viewpoints with your private guide while learning about its dramatic past. We will take you by our air-conditioned bus from Makry Gialos, drive through Ierapetra until Elounda, a famous village for its beauty and view. From there we will visit the island of Spinalonga, where you will be offered a walking guided tour and have enough free time to explore the island. This small isle carries within the history of Ancient Greece, as it was used as a Leper Colony until 1957 and there is a great history for you to find out behind this. Back to Elounda where you will have time to explore the beautiful promenade and enjoy your coffee or lunch. Our last stop will be in Agios Nikolaos, to walk around the "bottomless" lake and enjoy the picturesque scenery. There will be enough time for shopping and coffee.

Visit Spinalonga, the last leper colony in Europe, is located in Elounda from where we take the boat for Spinalonga island. Originally, Venetians fortified the islet in 1579, by building a fortress with 40 cannons and they are actually the best preserved walls in Europe. Visit Kritsa village, located 10 km from Agios Nikolaos in Lasithi. A beautiful small village in the mountain foothills, with narrow winding lanes and plenty of character.

Nicknamed the island of the living dead, Spinalonga lies at the natural harbor of Elounda in the prefecture of Lassithi in Crete. Despite being a small barren island of 85 acres, it carries a long history and holds a special place in the Greeks' hearts, while it preserves its beauty notwithstanding its dark past. Leaving Spinalonga Island, we will pick-up your lunch from a local restaurant at Elounda , and the remaining time is free to explore or relax at the beach . The next destination will be Agios Nikolaos.In the center of Agios Nikolaos is the lake Voulismeni, probably created by an earthquake. Where, we can have a coffee break or a walk around the lake, which gives you a great view from above, over the center and the harbor of Agios Nikolaos. Please note that on Tuesdays & Fridays there will be official guiding . On daily basis there will be escort guiding and on Spinalonga island we'll provide you with a map , so you can visit all the important monuments on your own .

This tour starts with a drive along the north coast of Crete towards the east of the island. Your first visit will be to the small and lively town Agios Nikolaos where you can spend some free time at the lake, the harbor or the numerous little shops and bars. After that we drive to the village Elounda. From there we continue by boat to sail over to the island Spina Longa. There you can travel through the Venetian and Turkish periods, roam through the old houses and alleys and explore the fortress to arrive at a more recent and moving part of history: The first half of the 20th century when Spina Longa was the last Leper Colony of Europe. After your visit to Spina Longa you have 2 hours of free time to stroll through the small seaside village Elounda, have a refreshing swim or enjoy the local cuisine.
