Itineraries for Your Trip to Perth
1 Day in Perth for First Timers
Perth may be one of the most isolated cities on the planet, but it certainly isn’t short of things to do. After I moved here, I fell in love with the city’s casual yet cool vibes and laid-back beach culture. Even for short-term visitors, it’s one of those cities that seems to tick everyone’s boxes—there’s plenty of culture, beautiful nature, and some of the best sunsets in the world.
While there’s plenty to see, with only one day in Perth, you’ll have to be a little choosy or at least curate your visit to your interests. Maybe that’s museums, markets, and fine dining, or street art, vineyards, and ocean sunsets. Whatever it looks like, Perth is a city you can shape to suit you.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a trip to Kings Park for its incredible views over the city.
Despite its reputation for being hot and sunny, winters in Perth can be wet and cold, so bring warm clothes and an umbrella.
With only one day in Perth, you’ll want to squeeze in as many highlights, like Elizabeth Quay, Kings Park, and Fremantle, as possible. However, the top attractions are all fairly far apart, so it's best to opt for a sightseeing tour that encompasses them all. That way, along with getting the lay of the land, you’ll also gain insider insights that make the difference when experiencing a new place. Plus, you can enjoy the added benefits of not worrying about finding parking or navigating Perth’s not-so-great public transport system.
This afternoon, take a trip from the city to the Swan Valley, a scenic area known for its rolling vineyards, craft breweries, and chocolate factories. For a nice, relaxing way to spend an afternoon, take a group tour of the region that includes transportation from the city center, along with wine, beer, cheese, and chocolate tastings. If that still feels too much, you could relax on the beach, check out some street art around the city center, or head to one of Perth’s many museums, like WA Museum Boola Bardip.
Perth is a city surrounded by water, from the turquoise hues of the Indian Ocean to the calm blues of the Swan River. While it’s tough to beat an ocean sunset, an evening dinner cruise on the river certainly comes close—especially with the stars and city lights twinkling away. Alternatively, you can’t go wrong with fish and chips on the beach at Scarborough or dinner and drinks in Northbridge.
