Zhangjiajie National Forest Park lies in northwest Hunan. Renamed from a forest farm in 1982, it covers 4,810 hectares.
Take the eco-shuttle to Bailong Skyway, a world-famous open sightseeing elevator in Wulingyuan World Natural Heritage Area. The 65-yuan fee per person is included and non-refundable. You can shoot wonderful mountain views while ascending, and admire the General Formation of 48 stone peaks.
Then reach Yuanjiajie, a plateau featuring the Back Garden and Mysterious Hill Platform. It is the filming site of *Avatar*, where South Heavenly Pillar inspired the floating Hallelujah Mountain.
We continue to Tianzi Mountain, famous for natural landscapes, folk customs and local snacks. You may hike down or take the optional downhill cable car at 72 yuan per person.
The last stop is Ten Miles Gallery, a scenic canyon. The 5km round walk is strenuous. A sightseeing train is available: 38 yuan one way, 76 yuan round trip. The tour ends as we return to the city.
