Haro

La Rioja
Haro
  • The wines of La Rioja are typically powerful and richly concentrated, and they can reach ABVs of up to 15 percent. Be sure to pace yourself if visiting multiple wineries, or plan tapas stops in between.
  • Not all of the bodegas in Haro are open to the public, and it’s best to research where you want to go in advance—and make reservations—to guarantee your entry.
  • Don’t want to drive or stray too far from town? A cluster of top-notch wine bodegas (the highest concentration of century-old wineries in the world, in fact) is located right in central Haro, near its train station.
  • La Rioja is one of Spain’s coldest regions—its summers may be hot, but if you visit in winter, be sure to bundle up.
