Things to do in  Ksamil

Last stop on the Albanian Riviera

Although it was once a small village, Ksamil has quickly become one of the most popular spots on the Albanian Riviera. Located opposite the Greek island of Corfu, Ksmail offers a great selection of beaches, each with crystal-clear waters and comprehensive amenities. Visitors won't find many things to do in Ksamil that don't involve going to the beach, but half-day trips to the small, quiet islands offshore and the ancient ruins of Butrint provide travelers with a nice dose of variety.

When to visit

It’s best to wait for beach weather when visiting Ksamil. The warm weather between May and September is ideal for spending long days at local beaches and swimming in the Ionian Sea. Conditions are at their best in July and August, but this is also when the small village is overwhelmed by the volume of beachgoers in the area. If you don’t mind colder water, come in May and September for a quieter experience.

Getting around

Most visitors arrive in Ksamil from the nearby port city of Sarandë. A regular public bus runs from the city to Ksamil (and through to Butrint) and takes roughly 30 minutes. However, the bus often fills up immediately in summer; groups should take a taxi as it won’t be much more expensive. Walking is the most common way to get around Ksamil, especially as traffic can build up, but some outer beaches are too far to walk.

Traveler tips

Most beaches in Ksamil are now private; to use them, you’ll need to rent out two sunbeds with one umbrella for a high daily rate. Prices are generally higher at the popular Ksamil Beach and Bora Bora Beach. However, views from beachside cafés only cost the price of a drink. Remote beaches are often also quieter, as some beach clubs play loud pop/dance music along the main beaches.

People Also Ask
Q:Is Ksamil worth visiting?
A:

Yes, if you want to spend your vacation at a beach resort in Albania, then Ksamil is well worth visiting. Ksamil is a good match for travelers who want beaches with facilities and beach clubs. However, if you’re more interested in history and culture, then besides Butrint, visiting Ksamil likely won’t be worth your time.

Q:How many days do you need in Ksamil?
A:

Since you’ll be spending most of your time in Ksamil at the beach, the length of your vacation depends on your needs, but 2–3 days is a good place to start. If you wish to take a boat tour to the Ksamil Islands or visit Butrint National Park, allow at least half a day for each.

Q:What is there to do in Ksamil when it rains?
A:

Unfortunately, not much. Ksamil is primarily a beach destination, and the other activities in the area involve being outdoors. On a rainy day, learn how to prepare local dishes with a cooking class, pamper yourself at a local salon or barber, or just relax at your accommodation.

Q:Is Ksamil a tourist trap?
A:

Yes, some people might say that Ksamil is a tourist trap. You could argue that the village has been developed mainly to attract tourists—which has led to overcrowded beaches—and that the prices of sun beds and beach umbrellas are quite high. However, traveling in the off-season can make for a quieter, more peaceful experience.

Q:Is Ksamil overcrowded?
A:

Yes, parts of Ksamil can get overcrowded during peak season. Ksamil becomes very busy during the summer months of July and August, and some of its most popular beaches become extremely full. However, the resort does have some beaches, such as The Last Bay, that don’t attract large crowds.

Q:Do you need cash in Ksamil?
A:

Yes, you must have cash when visiting Ksamil. Most businesses still only accept payments in cash, including some bed and breakfasts and boutique hotels. You’ll also want cash if you plan on using public transport and especially if you want to rent sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach.
