We’ll take you from Svolvær to the best of western Lofoten — Reine, Hamnøy, Sakrisøy and Å — plus a few of our favorite photo stops and viewpoints along the way. The itinerary is flexible and adjusted to weather and group energy (because no one wants to walk on a beach in sideways rain). We don’t recite Wikipedia facts or call every beach the “Copacabana of Lofoten.” Instead, we share what it’s really like to live year-round on these remote Arctic islands. We use personal headsets on our tours. You’ll travel in a modern, comfy minivan with a local guide, enjoy hot drinks, something sweet (yes, Kvikklunsj!), and good company. With this combination of coach and walk, we will enjoy the third largest city in Norway from different perspectives. We will start our adventure with a 2-hour city tour by coach from Pirbadet, near the the cruise terminal. We will head to Solsiden, a charming and vibrant district and pass by the colorful boat and warehouses along the river Nid. Hotel Britannia and the royal residence Stiftsgården also a must-see on this tour. We'll make a photo stop at the Sverresli viewpoint with a wonderful view of whole Trondheim. From here we'll head to Kristiansten fortress, where we'll make another photo stop. The walking part of the tour will start at Nidarosdomen, the beautiful, northern-most cathedral in Scandinavia and the best-preserved Gothic building in Northern Europe. We will enjoy Bakklandet with the small colourful houses, we cross the Old Town Bridge and have a look at the bicycle lift, the unique one in the world. All this followed by interesting and amusing stories of our guides.

The tour starts in front of Pirbadet. It continues to a modern part of the city called Solsiden where many locals spend their free time enjoying themselves outside the cafés and restaurants. We proceed along the river Nid and the colorful warehouses. After that we head to one of the oldest areas of ​​the town – Bakklandet – which has managed to preserve its charming wooden architecture. In Bakklandet is where you also find the world's only bicycle lift. We leave Bakklandet behind crossing over the famous old town bridge with "The Portal of Happiness". Then we arrive at Nidaros Cathedral, Norway's national monument. Nidaros Cathedral is built over the tomb of St. Olav, Norway's patron saint. We carry on to the Market Square (Torget). Here, the Viking King Olav Tryggvason, the city's founder, is enthroned above the vibrant square in the shape of a statue. Our next stop is Stiftsgården, the royal residence, and passing Britannia Hotel before heading back to the harbour.

After the devastating fire in 1681, the fortress was built in order to defend Trondheim. We continue on to our final stop, Nidaros Cathedral (Nidarosdomen). The cathedral was built in the 11th century. Additional work and renovations have continued since then. It is one of Scandinavia’s most stunning and grandiose cathedrals as well as the best well-preserved Gothic building in Northern Europe. Trondheim and Norway as a whole are very proud of this magnificent building.

Discover Bryggerekka, the most photogenic area in Trondheim. It is a ring of old wharf buildings along both sides of the Nidelva, the oldest of which dates from the 18th century. Walk through Gamle Bybro and explore the view of the 18th-century wooden wharfs that line the river Nidelva. Here you will have a panoramic view of the dramatic peaks, the crystal- clear water, and the white sandy beaches that are typical for Lofoten. We have planned several stops along the way, and we can make as many extra stops as you want. We will explore the unique landscape, visit beaches ranked as the most beautiful in the world and have a closer look at the small fishing villages where you find the traditional red and yellow wooden fisherman’s cabins. You will have the chance to taste some local food and your guide will tell you about the history of Lofoten and how people now live their lives in this arctic part of the world.
