Next, visit a traditional onsen footbath or public bathhouse to experience Beppu’s therapeutic waters for yourself. Even a short soak is relaxing and deeply local. Then, head to the Kannawa District, where old wooden houses and narrow lanes are shrouded in steam rising from the streets. Enjoy a unique local treat: onsen-steamed cuisine, where vegetables, eggs, and buns are cooked using natural hot spring steam—healthy, flavorful, and fun to watch being made. Start your day with a guided visit to Beppu’s famous Umi Jigoku and Oniishi Jigoku, followed by a scenic ride on the Beppu Ropeway to Mt. Tsurumi’s summit. Enjoy cool mountain air and panoramic views with your English-speaking guide by private car. After descending, you’ll board a local bus (without the guide) and head to the charming hot spring town of Yufuin. From this point, the tour becomes self-guided. You’ll receive a custom English map with recommendations for walking through Yufuin’s highlights—Yunotsubo Street, Lake Kinrinko, cafés, shops, and hot springs. This format gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. If you would prefer a private driver or guide in Yufuin, optional arrangements are available upon request. However, the self-guided format is the most budget-friendly and flexible option. Please note: This tour does not include travel insurance. - [ Hells of Beppu :別府地獄めぐり ] Beppu Onsen on Oita's east coast, is one of the most famous hot spring towns in Japan. It produces more hot spring water than any other place in the country, and the view of the townscape with plumes of rising steam is striking. Beppu is especially famous for its “hells,” (jigoku), hot springs that reach over 100 degrees Celsius. Although they are too hot to soak in, each has a different character. - [ Yunotsubo Kaido 湯の坪街道 ] at YUFUIN Yunotsubo Kaido Street runs through the center of the popular hot spring town of Yufuin, leading from Yufuin Station to Lake Kinrinko. It takes about 20 minutes to cover the distance without lingering, but there are enough interesting shops, cafes and galleries to merit an hour or two of strolling. - [ ‘KOKONOE “YUME” OTSURIHASH’ ] is opened in October 30th, 2006. It is 390 meters long, 173 meters high, 1.5 meters broad and it is the highest suspension bridge which is only for walkway in Japan.
