Fun Valparaiso tour

Jean_C, Mar 2026
Fun tour. Catalina was a great guide. Learned a lot about history and arts. We have a nice lunch too

Fun day in a Beautiful City

WILLIAM_F, Feb 2026
LOTS of walking up and down steps and hills - but the only way to experience the scenic views and artistic treats across a beautiful city. A great opportunity to see the everyday lives and activities that occur in a busy port city. Catalena was a knowledgeable, entertaining guide who willingly shared her love of Valparaiso.

Excellent tour guide giving you a great view of Valpo life

Michele_N, Feb 2026
Cata was superb! We were “puerteros” or locals, in the first half of the day and tourist the second. A highlight was exploring the fish market which was fascinating! Going to local squares and neighborhoods gives a view of the life of Valpo. We used all different kinds of transportation. Later seeing the murals, artists and seeing Cata’s friends were all very interesting. Lunch at a little empanada place and our rollercoaster ride were highlights. The pace was very good for young and older people. Of note, if you come in via cruise ship, you must go all the way around to get to the meeting place bc of the immigration building is in the opposite direction.

Single Passenger - No Problems

Stuart_D, Jan 2026
I was fortunate to be the only "passenger" with Catalina who was very friendly and informative, taking me via tram to the fish Wharf and market and then journey across town via microbus, funicular, taxi and foot exploring the heart of Valpariso. It was great to meet the people of Valpariso and learn about the history of the city. Catalina was engaging and able to answer all my questions, on all topics from history to politics!! Catalina suggested a good place for lunch and I was able to sample a freshly caught fish dinner. Catalina knew many of the people across Valpariso having lived there many years and I was introduced to many workers and craftsmen. I would certainly recommend this tour and I thought it was very good value.

Great way to see and experience Valparaiso

Paul_H, Jan 2026
This is an opportunity to see and experience Valparaiso in a way that would be impossible without the services of a guide. You see every part of this great city and are chaperones on to all forms of public transportation in the process. Our guide Cata was charming and genuinely enthusiastic to share the city. She didn’t cut any corners and was very knowledgeable about the various stops. One of the best city tours I have ever been on having used aviator many times. If you read this review and don’t book you will have missed a great experience.

Lovely Valparaiso

Mansoor_A, Sep 2025
Our last and only day in Valparaiso started out with a lot of rain. We requested our guide Katalina to start late until the rain let up. She was very flexible. And we had a wonderful tour when the sun came out. Since it was only two of us, she catered the tour for what we wanted, which was looking at graffiti, nice neighborhoods, and art galleries. We fell in love with Valparaiso. Even though there was a lot of walking up and down the hills. I would highly recommend this tour.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re really happy that despite the rainy start, you had a beautiful day discovering Valparaíso. Katalina loves adapting each tour to make it personal and memorable, and we’re glad you enjoyed the art, neighborhoods, and those classic Valpo hills.

This is the BEST tour of Valparaiso

sn8y4m5rgc, May 2025
We LOVED our tour with Danae! If you are visiting Valparaiso, you need to take this tour. Danae gave us an authentic, local, and well rounded understanding of the city. It was cloudy and cold on the day we went, and we appreciated that Danae tweaked our itinerary to make sure we could still see all of the sights and make the most of the gloomy day. Riding along all of the public transit is a highlight, as it gave us a good understanding of the rhythm and day to day life of the city, as well as empowered us to navigate it on our own! Danae had an incredible understanding of the history of both Valparaiso and the art we looked at. The pace of the tour was great, and done well so you don’t have to climb to many hills or stairs! Once we mentioned we liked art gallery’s and music, Danae made sure to incorporate stops into the trip, introducing us to the different artists and store owners as we went along. It changed the trajectory of our trip, and I don’t think we would’ve come to love Valparaiso so much if it weren’t for Danae. HIGHLY recommend! Pro tip: do it on your first or second day in town! We spent the following days retracing our steps and revisiting the places she recommended to us, stopping to shop and eat and wander.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re really happy to hear how much you enjoyed the tour with Danae. She’s passionate about Valparaíso and always makes sure each tour feels personal and meaningful. It’s great to know the experience helped you connect with the city in a real and memorable way. Even with the cloudy weather! Exploring by public transport, discovering local art, music, and meeting people along the way is exactly what we hope our tours offer. Thanks again for the lovely recommendation (and the great tip about doing the tour early on!). We hope Valparaíso stays with you for a long time. Warm wishes from all of us at Patatour!

Absolutely worth doing!

Mark_M, Mar 2025
This is a fantastic way to spend a day in Valparaiso. Our guide, Christian, was terrific. He was born and raised in the neighborhoods we explored on foot giving us unique perspective. The excursion is about 7 hours but included a long break for lunch at a great but reasonably priced restaurant. We covered a lot of ground on foot and various forms of public transportation. Total steps walked was about 7,500 ( 3.5 miles) but not strenuous. The street art was fascinating. Highly recommend this tour of you want to experience the essential Valparaiso up close. Do it! You won’t regret it

Response from Host, Jul 2025

We were locals for the day in Valparaiso! Wide buses, trains, funiculars, trolleys to navigate this beautiful art filled town. Christian is a local who loves sharing his city. He was so kind, considerate knowledgeable. Fun stops for traditional food and drinks! Highly recommend.

Our cruise ship was late into the Port by approximately 4 hours yet our guide Pablo assured us he would be waiting for us when the ship would finally arrive - and he was. Took us on an informative walking tour of Valparaiso. Well spoken and well versed on the the local sites and customs. If you are visiting Valparaiso then I recommend you use Pablo as your guide.

Best BIG DAY OUT ever!

Yvette_C, Nov 2024
My whole day was one of wonderment and information. Montserrat was just amazing as a guide and I thoroughly enjoyed my whole day. Montserrat communicated with me via messages right up until we met, which is very reassuring when you are in a foreign location with no real language skills. We laughed and shared MY experiences throughout the day. I loved all the different transport options..and I loved the mix of the history and the current bohemian vibe. It would rate as one of the best walking tours I have ever been on.

Response from Host, Nov 2024

Thanks so much for your lovely review! We're so happy to hear you had such a great day with Montserrat. She really loves showing off the best of Valparaíso, and it sounds like you got to experience so many of the things that make our city special. If you’re ever back in Valpo, we’d love to show you around again. Safe travels!

Fantastic tour of this gem of a city

Marc_A, Nov 2024
We saw many cultural sites on this tour. Our guide Christian is a native of Valparaiso with an excellent command of the English language. He has an intimate knowledge of the city and its people. He took us to both famous and off-the-beaten path places. We also enjoyed learning the history of each area, the native plants and regional cuisine. Highlights include riding the funiculars and other local transportation methods. We saw parts of the city unable to view by bus or car. By far, the most informative tour we’ve been on.

Response from Host, Nov 2024

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! There’s nothing like seeing the heart of Valparaíso up close, from the funiculars to all the hidden gems you can’t see from a bus (that's the reason of our name Patatour). We’re glad it was memorable—hope to see you back again!

A Must do Tour

Beverly_M, Oct 2024
Cristian was a fabulous guide. We went to places only locals go and travelled on funiculars, micro buses, and taxis. A great experience! The meeting point at muele prat was good, but perhaps wifi could be made available there so foreign tourists can access WhatsApp which is how guides communicate with clients.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

Thanks so much for sharing! So glad Cristian showed you around like a local—funiculars, micro buses, and all! Appreciate the heads-up about WiFi at Muelle Prat; we’ll see what we can do to make it easier to stay connected. Hope to see you back in Valparaíso someday!

A++

Jason_F, Oct 2024
Great tour led by Isaac. Because I was solo for the first half, Isaac helped tailor the tour to my specific interests. He had a ton of local knowledge to share which made the visit more intimate, and gave me a sense of the "real Valparaiso." Truly a great experience.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

Thanks so much for the great review! We’re really happy to hear you had an awesome time with Isaac and that he could personalize the tour for you. It’s awesome that his local tips gave you a real feel for Valparaíso. Hope to see you again next time you’re around!

I couldn’t have asked for more.

Julie_W, Sep 2024
I couldn’t have asked for a better tour of Valparaíso. Cristian was friendly, personable, and funny. He was also very patient when I tried to speak in Spanish, offering gentle corrections when needed. (I will say that his English is incredible though. You don’t need to speak Spanish to thoroughly enjoy this tour.) Beforehand, I worried that it was going to be long day of climbing hills, but it was perfect! We used funiculars and other types of local transportation to travel up the hills. He started the day by asking what I’m interested in and what I enjoy doing. Then he customized the tour to include those interests. We rode a few funiculars, went to a fish market, walked through some residential neighborhoods to get a feel for how Poteños live. He told me about the history of some of the larger homes. Chilean’s celebrate their independence this month, so, at my request, we spoke about that history. We also spoke about the coup and the dictatorship. He seemed prepared to answer any and every question I had. I was very impressed. If I ever come back, I would do this tour again. There is so much to learn! P.S. There were sea lions!

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a heartfelt review! We’re truly happy that Cristian was able to customize the day to your interests and make it both a personal and meaningful experience. It’s great to hear that his knowledge of the city's history, as well as his patience with your Spanish, made the day even more special. We love that you enjoyed the mix of local transportation and walks through the neighborhoods—it really does offer a unique glimpse into life as a porteño. And those sea lions are always a bonus! We’d be thrilled to welcome you back for more discoveries next time you’re in Valparaíso!

Valparaiso brought to life.

The Valpo in 1 Day tour with Cristian was absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend this tour to anybody who wants to get a flavour of life in Valparaiso . His anecdotes about growing up here really brought the place alive. He took us on Micro buses, Trolley buses , trains and the funiculars exploring many local areas. We had a fantastic day.

This is one of the best tours I've ever been on. Paula is a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable and personable. It was a more culturally authentic tour than most I've been on which I loved

Thanks a ton for the kind words! We’re so happy you had such a great time with Paula. She really loves what she does, and it’s awesome to hear that came through in the tour. We’re all about showing the real, authentic side of Valparaíso, so it’s great to know you felt that. Hope to have you back with us someday!

Highly recommended

STEPHEN_G, Jul 2024
I was lucky enough to be the only person on the tour, and Paula was a superb guide. We traveled on various forms of transport and stopped at multiple points of interest around the colourful city that I would never have seen otherwise: the fish market, sea lions and pelicans were an unexpected highlight for me! Her choice of restaurant for lunch was also good: great food and views of the city. I highly recommend this tour.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

Sounds like you had an awesome time with Paula! Being the only one on the tour must have made it feel super personal. We're thrilled you got to see some cool spots like the fish market and those playful sea lions. And finding a great lunch place with amazing views is always a bonus! Thanks for recommending us—hope to have you back for another adventure in Valparaíso soon!

Great tour !

Carol_M, Mar 2024
Loved this trip ! We got to see some different areas of Valparaiso that we probably wouldn't have on our own. And the guide was very friendly and also knowledgeable. Beautiful city. Highly recommend !

Great day in Valparaiso

william_b, Mar 2024
The tour itself was flawless Paula was warm, engaging and knowledgeable, giving just the right amount of information. our only misgiving was the restaurant chosen for lunch. It was beautiful, but the food was somewhat pricey and probably the worst meal we have had in Chile. I had the grilled scallops, which didn’t taste particularly fresh, and my partner had the congor soup, with tough fish and not very good flavor. All in all, though, it was a wonderful day with Paula.

Such a fun and different type of tour

Melissa_C, Mar 2024
We like local walking tours and Cristian certainly delivered. We walked the streets he grew up in and he shared stories of his life. We went on four transit systems and bought lunch at a great restaurant he suggested. Shopped a bit, stopped where we wanted and places he suggested. You won’t regret booking him.
