If I could leave zero stars I would! Our ship was due to dock in Trujillo in March, however due to the weather the Peruvian Government closed the port so no ships could dock. We informed the tour operator the day before that we would have to cancel this tour as our ship was unable to dock. The operator responded saying we would receive a full refund, however after trying to chase for an update - they ignored all our messages and we never received a single penny back.
DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS TOUR OPERATOR UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO LOSE YOUR MONEY IF YOUR SHIP CANNOT DOCK DUE TO THE GOVERNMENT CLOSING THE PORT.
The issue is that the tour operator promised us a refund but then blanked us when we tried to chase them up. This shows that they are dishonest, untrustworthy and would totally ditch you if you ever need to communicate with them. I would never book with this tour company again and would advise anyone who wants to go on this tour to try a different tour company. If we weren't promised a refund, this wouldn't be as much of an issue, however we were led to believe we were hence the dissatisfaction with this tour company.

The itinerary will be as follows:
Temple of the Sun and the Moon
City Center, Cathedral, and Colonial Traditional House
Chan Chan and Museum
Huanchaco Beach
Return time will be between 2.30 and 3pm because I know the cruise leaves at 4pm
At the end of the tour, we will have some time for refreshments—a stop to grab a drink or enjoy some typical ceviche, or anything you like at Huanchaco Beach (depending on available time of course, our main priority will be for you to see the main tour-historical attractions first).
Touring Sun and moon temple was a disaster many groups all at the site at the same time talking , walking up a hilly dirt path with a large crowd. It was archaeology site. Not a temple. No water provided by the tour company.
Second stop: city central we did stop at colonial house but couldn’t see cathedral since police told driver to move. Why didn’t he move elsewhere and come back for us.
I asked the driver if the third stop was similar to the first stop with the dirt and the archaeology site. He told me no, however it was.
It was noted in Viator that this was a customized tour. It was not, eight of the 22 people ( that I know of ) asked the tour guide if we could go to the beach since that was noted in the original itinerary. I asked the tour guide if he could drop us at the beach. He told me we would go to the beach area. When we got back on the bus He said no we couldn’t go.
I also asked him if he could drop us off and come back for us.
We Had to walk in the sun all day with no water or no stop to buy any thing. Not to mention No AC Bus. The city itself was dirty and had garbage everywhere.
If you’re going to the city, don’t even bother getting off the ship.

The tour was to have AC on the bus but did not, it had been sometime based on the amount dust on the bus. The tour was long and hot. No option for lunch was offered. The ruins were ok but we spent more time than needed at them.
The second ruins was all a recreation so it was a waste of time.

This was one of the worst tours we've ever been on. First, it was a a hot, humid day and the A/C in the van was almost non existent. It blew cooler air, but only an inch or two away from the vent. Second the suspension on the bus was horrible. We bottomed out several times and with the bad roads you felt every bump. Third, the mic system our tour guide used in the bus couldn't be heard by most of us, so she stopped using it and we got no commentary on the bus ride. It worked okay at the sites we visited though. Fourth, on almost every tour we have been on through Viator the tour operator provides bottle water and especially when it's hot. We brought waters, but quickly ran out because it was so hot. Lastly, the time management on this tour was bad. We visited all the sites first and then we were supposed to go to the beach for refreshments (which should have been in the middle of the tour), but because the tour times at the sites were too long we had to skip the beach and went back to the ship. Also, we could have skipped Chan Chan since it was a downgraded version of the Temple of the Sun and Moon and most of the decorations weren't real and were reproductions. The only good thing about this tour was our tour guide, Cynthia, who was very knowledgeable about the sites.

The group was too large for one tour guide. She had a hard time corralling everyone. We didn’t get to do all the things because group members kept wandering off.
The bus was really hot and the air conditioner did not keep up.

Although Raul spoke English well, the overall tour was disappointing. The A/C on the bus did work and we were driving with all the windows open down dusty roads. The traffic is bad and travel times were excessive. The ruins were interesting but weren't enough to overlook the transportation.

The excursion had a lot of riding in the small bus to get to the sites we visited, but the stops were all well worth doing. Air conditioning was provided by open windows, which was OK but made it hard to hear the guide unless you were in the front half of the bus. We did not get to go in some of the museums because it was Monday, but I’m not sure how long we would have had in the museums, since we spent plenty of time at the stops with the guide. We understood the guide pretty well even though the names of the indigenous people groups was not easy to pronounce. We did not have time to go to the last stop (the beach), but it was pretty hot by then anyway and most of the group was tired. Total time by the time we got back to the ship was 6 hours.

The published itinerary includes visits to temples of the Sun and moon along with the associated museum. Then a stop in Trujillo at the main square before proceeding to the enormous Chan Chan site. We did not go to the Chan Chan museum or to the beach, both of which are on the itinerary.
Our guide, Raul, was a nice guy but he went on and on and on with, in my opinion, way too much historical detailed information. Additionally, he didn't wait for the slower walkers in the group to catch up before he began to speak. I think the time we spent at the 2 archeological sites could have been much shorter thereby allowing us to complete the entire published and PAID FOR itinerary.
Seems to me a partial refund is warranted. Very disappointed.

Sabi (Sabine) was passionate and very knowledgeable, we got a very good feeling for the Chimu and Moche civilizations. If anything, we were overwhelmed with detail. The fact that she’d worked on the archeological site a big plus. Her English was okay, but better English would have helped with the finer points. Time and group management in Trujillo at the cathedral was a bit hectic as she changed both the meeting point and time, and several members of the group got nervous they would be left behind. The bus was the biggest negative, the AC didn’t work.

NCL skipped this Port because of shallow Port. No refund given. Book directly with your cruise line to avoid losing money.

Julio escorted our group and brought his outstanding guide, a wonderful young lady, but I can’t remember her name. She patiently answered all of our questions about the ruins and was extremely knowledgeable.

Absolutely wonderful. We were a group from a cruise ship and we had constant updates on what’s app for several days prior. The guides were stellar, so knowledgeable about the history of the sites. Strongly recommend this tour.

Tour operator was very professional. We got all the necessary information ahead of tour. Tour guide was also very energetic to tell the site history. The only problem was the AC of "air -conditioned vehicle" was turned off then windows were wide open, so we suffered stinky smell all the way from Chan Chan to cruise terminal.

Our tour guide did a great job ensuring we were able to visit each of the sites especially since the security people at Chan Chan were reluctant to let us visit. She was knowledgeable and really worked hard to keep the group together and on time to meet the cruise requirements. On a separate note, I would recommend that the promotion of this tour be clarified as the title "private customized" is not accurate with a tour group of ~15 people.

It was a great experience but important to request an English speaking guide. Our main guide was fluent in English but when we got to the main sites our guide was changed to a guide that was not fluent and left us quite confused as we did not understand most of what she was saying.

Cynthia was an amazing guide who provided rich background and was knowledgeable about the ancient indigenous Moche civilization! She clearly communicated and we covered the Temple of the Sun & Moon (visited there). the plaza and old colonial home where Simon Bolivar stayed, and then visited the UNESCO Chan Chan site! Our driver got us back in time! It was excellent! Bring your own water and snacks and you will be fine!

We rode by the Temple of the Sun which is not open to visitors and had an extensive tour of the Temple of the Moon and Chan Chan. We also visited one of the Colonial homes in Trujillo as well as the beautiful cathedral. Our final stop was for a quick glimpse of the beach town. We did not get to see the museums, but our time was limited because of our cruise's schedule. Do bring water for your excursion and prepare for spending a good deal of time walking in the sun.

This tour was excellent for the price!
- The tour guide, Wilmer, knows his stuff and though his English was sometimes difficult to understand (and he speaks very fast), by Peruvian standards, he was pretty fluent
- We saw all the same things the ship’s excursion did, but for much less
- They were very careful to get us back to the ship an hour before all aboard. Another similar ship’s excursion got back an hour late!
The reasons I’m not giving it 5 stars:
- The description said that lunch was not included, but from 8:30 start until 3:30 end, we had no opportunity to even buy anything to eat. A warning to bring something would have been appropriate. We also should have been warned that there would be no water available. I would suggest adding a couple dollars to the price for each person and supplying bottles of water
- We could have used some more communication along the way about bathroom breaks. There was an opportunity during the first couple of hours, but then none until the end. I would have taken advantage of the first one, had I known
- Similarly, some in our group could have benefited from knowing at each site , approximately how much walking they might expect there
I do recommend this tour because I think it’s a great value, with warnings about these few things

We spent time at the Temple of the Sun and the Moon as well as Chan Chan. Our guide, Raoul as did a great job explaining the history and pointing out items of interest. The only downsides were the fairly long and bumpy bus rides in traffic and the lack of adequate time for lunch, which we would have loved to have in Huanchaco near the beach. Overall, a fun day.

this tour was mismanaged from beginning to end. We were 4 of 8 guests left behind. When we were finally able to meet up with the tour we had missed two of the top 3 sites. The timing was continued to be mismanaged so that we had no time to see the final site also. a disaster of a day. Along with that, the bus was advertised as A?C and it was not.

Thank for your feedback, we really appreciate it... but we need to mention all the facts about what happened before and during the tour.
FACT 1 - Even though your reservation was made for 11 am. as the other customers that we had on that day (60 plus) in 3 different buses each group with their individual tour guide and a tour controller, the other passengers did not have any issue meeting early and I tell you why...
-arrival of the cruisehip 7 am with a departure at 4pm. So we advise 2 weeks before by email, tripadvisor, viator and even whatsapp so we could all meet as soon as possible to fulfil everything that we offer.
FACT 2- If you expect to have a tour that could show you everything that we offer which we clearly mention on the description that takes more or less 5 to 6 hours - then you cannot start a tour at 11 when you know that is not enough time if your Cruiseship leaves at 3 pm.
FACT 3 - Comunication was done on this booking a month before we star, the problem here is that you and the 8 passengers did not respond to our comunication and we showed record of that when you made the complain to Viator who by the way deducted all the payments, so technically we lost money because you got a full refund.
FACT 4 - Even though you were late to the start of the tour, Me - Julio Gonzalez the manager of the company arranged a taxi for you and the others which I paid as a courtesy so could catch up with the tour (lost money again)
In conclusion I think your review should specify this details because I believe is important for our future Customers, as you can see on our general reviews we have 5 starts and we are very small company that is proud of this achievement.

The excursion went beyond our expectations! They found out we didn’t need to be back on the ship until a few hours later than originally thought so with our permission they added sites to our tour. All unexpected. Went beyond what they needed to do

Very full day, with lots of interesting historical facts to help understand the way of life back in the day. Cynthia was very good at this. Julio was great at communicating instructions re meeting etc. We saw everything that was mentioned. Would recommend this tour if you're cruise ship is in port for the day

Very well organized. We saw many more sites than the ship tour at half the price.
The tour guide was very informative and spoke good English. They met us right at the drop off and that was very conscious of our return time to our ship. They got us back in plenty of time. The best way to communicate with them through WhatsApp or Viator.

The tour met all of my expectations. We visited all of the places that were advertised. The beautiful colonial Plazas, the archaeological sites, the beaches, and the general scenery were all amazing. Cynthia, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and seemed truly excited about sharing her knowledge. Julio, the tour Director, was very communicative leading up to the tour; he made it easy for the customers to locate the Tour from the ship; and did all that he could to ensure that the group saw as much as possible. I highly recommend this tour.
