Better than Dunn’s River Falls

Whereas the views at Dunn’s River Falls was spectacular, the excursion to Blue Hole was much more fun and safe. We were guided by 2 young lifeguards who were helpful, reassuring, and encouraging. I jumped into the water from a bungee rope, something I was afraid to have done on my own, after the lifeguard promised to be in the water to assist me if I needed him. We had no guides or assistance at Dunn’s falls. Thank you TJ and Kemmy for making the experience memorable for my family and friends! In an aside, we had a friendly driver Hitonga who met us at the port to drive us to our destination. My mistake, I set up the pick up site at the wrong port but with speedy help from the tour operator we were able to connect with our driver. He was knowledgeable of the area and took us to a restaurant for an authentic lunch of jerk chicken and got us back to the port in a timely fashion to revived the ship. These 3 young men personified the saying “Do what you love/love what you do’”.

good excursion

Blue hole was about an hr away from cruise port which (probably my fault) I didn’t research about and didn’t know it’d be that far away. Our driver Damien was ready for us when we arrived with a sign with my name on it. He was very kind, giving us the history of Jamaica and socializing with us the whole ride to our excursion. Any stops we made (Blue Hole, restaurant, shop, & beach) he waited patiently for us and was easily found when needing to head out. He made the process very stress free! Our Tour Guide; Kemmy, was amazing as well! He knew what he was doing, and directed us safely to the cliffs to jump. He also directed my bf and I to the front of the line majority of the activities we did. He recorded everything we did, and was open to us trying things most groups didn’t do (going under the cave, walking down the waterfall). He assisted my bf and I a lot during the higher climbs, or steeper down hill paths. You run into a lot of different groups during the excursion but all the staff know one another, and help each others’ groups out which was very nice to see. The only downside of this excursion was that we didn’t spend much time at the Blue Hole. We did one jump each, off each cliff (which was our choice) but it goes by so fast with only two people. We also paid $15 per rum chata for a small thing of it. Prices aren’t disclosed until the very end of the Blue Hole excursion. We probably wouldn’t have gotten a drink if we knew it was that much.

Easy Hassle Free Fun trip to Blue Hole

Our cruise day at Jamaica ended up being on national holiday where most places were closed, but our driver, Andre, was super accommodating in making sure our day was prioritized with our wishes for authentic oxtail & jerk chicken and local beach experience after our blue hole trip. He ensured everything was timed perfectly without feeling rushed and we made it back to cruise on time with a full day of experiencing what we wanted in Jamaica. Highly recommend private tour

When they say “private tour” they mean it. Not you plus two other families, just only your group and a guide. Greg (our guide) was wonderful. Flexible, knowledgeable, anticipated our needs and gave us solid advice. Took us cheaper local places to get what we needed. (Water shoes are NOT optional. There are rough and sharp rocks in the water plus you “hike” (walk on dirt, wood and muddy paths) across terrain, plus many times you need to cross slick underwater rocks in flowing water.) Greg took great care of us and altered our experience to the time constraints of our cruise. For instance, our port time in Jamaica was a little shorter than the advertised package. We had decided if our time was too short we could skip the beach at the end and taxi back (as we assumed we’d be with a larger group). But there was no need for contingencies because after Blue Hole, Greg chose a beautiful, quiet, relaxing beach adjoining some condos that had a beachfront bar restaurant so we could get our lunch and enjoy the beach in one stop. It was perfection. Throughout our full trip, Greg was lovely and conversational. He answered all our questions about local culture and elaborated. We talked history, culture, politics, religion… He was great. And he anticipated traffic correctly and got us back right on time. As for Blue Hole, that was a wonderful experience, too. It’s shady and cool, so you don’t need sunscreen and you can wear regular swimwear instead of rash guards. Bring your towels. You can leave everything locked in the van if you have souvenirs or a change of dry clothes. When you arrive at Blue Hole, they assign your family/group a personal Life Guard Guide who is also skilled at taking your photos and videos so you don’t get hustled by the ones offering to do that for money. Andre was our guy and he was so kind, so patient, and so good with our kids (and us). Super helpful gentleman. We loved everything about this. Our 7 year old was a little too scared to jump so her found her a lower spot, and then there were pools she could get in while the others jumped. Overall amazing, wonderful package experience, worth every single penny. I’m so glad we spent this money. Best value of the entire trip. (Also we chose the option to prepay your Blue Hole tickets to save time and money-stress on the day. But be sure to take cash to tip your people. You’re going to find them to be highly worthy of it.)
