Overview

Explore Oxford’s historic town center and ivy-strewn university buildings on this bike tour. Tolkien, and several British prime ministers have studied. This bike tour allows you to cover more ground than you would on a walking tour, as well as access pedestrianized areas inaccessible to tour buses.
  • Explore the famous university city on two wheels
  • Pedal to some of the university’s most famous college buildings
  • See pubs, parks, and other sites linked with some of the most famous writers and scholars of our time

Itinerary

Choose between a morning or afternoon tour, and then make your way to the meeting point in central Oxford to join up with your guide and group. After listening to a short safety briefing, strap on your helmet and set off to explore the honey-hued city at a leisurely pace.

Pedal along Oxford’s bike-friendly streets toward some of the 38 beautiful colleges that make up the prestigious University of Oxford, considered the oldest university in the English-speaking world. As you cycle, admire the timeworn buildings that throng the narrow roads and gain insight into the city’s past and present from your guide.

In addition to the university buildings, you’ll also visit sites like Port Meadow, said to be the inspiration behind the Alice in Wonderland stories, and the Eagle and Child pub, where the Inklings writers' group, whose members included J. R. R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, often held meetings.

The tour was absolutely fantastic! Not only was it a lovely way to see Oxford, but we learnt so much about the university history, how things are today and life as a student. Our guide was charming and I think adapted his tales to suit the audience he had which made our experience just right for us. Oxford is flat, so riding is easy.

Great way to see Oxford, our guide was professional, knowledgeable and had some great stories.

I would definitely recommend this tour. It is a great way to see Oxford, we covered a lot of ground in 2 hours. Our guide was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the town and university. He had some great stories and kept us all very entertained while also giving us a good appreciation for what it would be like to study at Oxford. A great tour for adult and children - do it!
