This was a such a great experience. Nela was an amazing tour guide. She is extremely passionate about her job and it shows. The experience of witnessing an active volcano and then a beautiful lake 15 minutes away was breathtaking. The coffee learning experience was also very informative on the process of making “ Great Coffee” we learnt a lot . This tour is a must especially if you get Nela to be your guide 🙏🏻😎

Our guide, Viktor, was fantastic and very helpful. He gave us great tips on what to do before arriving and constantly looked out for our group to ensure we were comfortable. We all really enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend it to others.
When I booked the trip, lunch and water are included but it was changed on the final day of confirmation. It was OK as long as it was stated before the booking. The trip was about seeing the volcano and not the fog. Guide did not verify to make sure everybody placed an online order of breakfast. He is not totally 100% engaged to the group but just another day for him. For sure all of us are disappointed not seeing the volcano but fog, and the disinterested of the guide to the group.
A great all round day! Even though the volcano was not visible our guide, Luis, made it really interesting and helped everyone learn about the flora and fauna. The coffee experience was amazing and definitely worth the trip.
Victor was a great tour guide! Although it was cloudy and we couldn’t see the crater, it was a great experience. The falls were beautiful and we really enjoyed the coffee plantation tour! Great day!
I would recommend this excursion. The only thing is that weather might not permit the volcano watch. We were lucky to have a nice view. The sky clear the intense fog for just a few minutes. Come prepared to do a long walk.
Depending on cloud conditions, you will not see the volcano or the lake. Not the tour company's fault!
A well organized tour with an English speaking guide, well aware of the area providing detailed info about local traditions and surroundings.
To check the weather to see whether the vulcano will be visible or not, because if you book a few days in advance that the chances are not good , you would not book that trip!
The tour at the coffee farm saved the day, because it was excellent.
It is a pity that when taking these tours: La Paz falls or sanctury or Poas that so much time is lost in traffic. Though you have other travelers to chat with it takes the fun out of the visits.or makes the experience less memorable.
Great tour guide and excellent views. Had a great time seeing the Poás Volcano and the coffee plantation. The water falls also has an excellent view.

What an excellent day! Wear a jacket it was cold going up mountain. It was good exercise walking up make sure bring water.
The Soda we stopped at had an incredible view, out door option, and delicious yet reasonably priced food. The waterfalls were cute. The coffee tour was top notch (Doka/Starbucks), and the o cart wheel factory was super interesting with authentic artists we could watch work.
I definitely recommend this tour if you’re staying in San Jose. It’s a great way to see the volcanic crater, the waterfall, and so many local sites in one day. However, I would like to note, breakfast is NOT included in this tour, you must pay on your own. I didn’t take any stars away for they because it was a great experience, I just want future travelers to be prepared to spend no more than $10 per person on a nice local breakfast. Do go on this tour and enjoy, I recommend!
There is not any breakfast included as the Viator advertisement says there is! Deceptive and a waste of money. Our guide spoke very little English and almost always in Spanish with a ton of driving and very few stops.
the guide was very helpful and had great knowledge, explained lots of things about the volcano. The coffee tour was pleasant too. The waterfall is beautiful but it's just in the middle of a road. The activity itself was very easy. Just spend a lot of time in the van. It was a very nice trip, especially to see some activity of Poas.
Extremely bad . Arrogant guide and event did not happen but charged thr money ( volcano ) . I would say this is the worst experience with Viator
An excellent trip even though the description is not exactly accurate. It does not include breakfast but, no matter, it was not expensive where we stopped before going to the Poas Volcano. That was extraordinary to see!
On the way to the Coffee Plantation, we also made a stop for a traditional lunch (also not included) in the mountains which was really good. Our guide, Marcella and driver, Victor, were excellent and made the trip fun with the other 18 people. I will caution that we were the first to be picked up at 5:15 AM and then we rode around picking up the rest of the group for over two and half hours. Perhaps the tour company could find another solution regarding pick-up and drop-off arrangements.
Would not recomend A .half a day tour turned into 14 hour day . Wet and cold Never saw the volcano. All clouds. They picked me up late after not getting any sleep and dropped me last .
Terrible Customer service. Never showed to pick us up. Sent over 10 messages to confirm time. No response from them.
All in all, the trip felt like we were going from tourist shop to tourist shop. But that wasn't the only thing we didn't like. Breakfast was advertised as a buffet, but when I wanted to get something after my first portion because it didn't fill me up, I wasn't allowed to. That annoyed me a bit. Then there was the café tour, although it would actually be better to go to the volcano as early as possible because locals told us that the view of the crater is clear in the morning. So after the café tour was over and we spent about 20 minutes in the shop, we went to the volcano. But we didn't see any of it, we were at the volcano at about 11 a.m. and it was full of fog. For my girlfriend and I, that was a slap in the face because that was the main reason we booked the tour. Instead of staying longer at the crater and hoping that the fog would clear, we drove to the next tourist shop to waste time there. Then we stopped for 15 minutes at a waterfall that is right on the road. The crowning glory was sitting in a restaurant for about 1.5 hours waiting to finally get home. We were stunned at how much time we wasted instead of staying at the crater. This is the first tour from viator that we didn't like at all.
We were a small group of 5 that had a very entertaining and informative day. Our guide (Marcela) was superb and highly adept at providing useful, pertinent information whilst happily fielding numerous questions. Highly recommended.
Hugo our guide at the Dika Coffee Plantation was great! He has a lot of humor and his way of guiding was very entertaining from the start to the end. Poas crater lake and lagoon were the cherry on top
Great guide and driver. Comfortable bus. Highly recommend the tour.
Rare opportunity to see the active volcano.
Great trip with our guide Marcela, full of interesting facts and details, truly recommend! We were very lucky as the volcano was fully visible too.
The guide was really nice and helpful and the views of the Volcano and coffee shop are beautiful.
However, I wouldnt book a tour with Viator again. We had no information about the pick up until the night before the tour (so after the limit to cancel). I tried contacted them and the tour organizer for days before and got no response. I could see on Whatsapp that they saw the message but wouldnt respond. No reply on emails either. We finally got a response late at night the evening before the tour just to learn that the pick up was at another hotel. However, when we booked, our hotel was in the choices. We had to pay an extra 20$ for Uber. We ended up beeing stressed and its the last thing you want on vacation. The guide was nice, the volcano and the quick stop at the coffee shop is nice, but the customer service is not worth what we paid for. I had way better service with other companies and I wouldnt feel confortable recommanding this one.
Wow!! What a great experience! Our tour guide, Victor, was excellent- great knowledge, patient and very accommodating. He provided great recommendations for coffee breaks, food and souvenir shopping. Once we got to Poas Volcano, we were not allowed to enter due to gas activity from the volcano. However, Victor was determined to wait it out until it cleared to provide us the experience which we finally did. No regrets- met great people, took great photos and overall my husband and I had an awesome day!
Great tour! It was a beautiful day in San Jose but began to get overcast as we went higher and higher. Couldn’t see the crater but really enjoyed the experience. Really loved the coffee plantation too!
It was convenient to get you to the volcano since I didn’t rent a car, however seemed pricey for what you got.
I would love to say special thank you to Jorge Loria and his driver for been a great human being and showing me a great time around San Jose Costa Rica 🇨🇷. I would have to say Jorge has been the best tour guy I’ve had by far.
Our Poás Volcano, La Paz Waterfall & Coffee Plantation tour was an unforgettable experience! From start to finish, everything was organized perfectly. Our guide Marcela was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and made the day feel special. The food stops were well-timed, giving everyone plenty of opportunity to order and enjoy their meals without feeling rushed. We were fortunate to have sunny blue skies, which gave us breathtaking views of the volcano and surrounding landscapes. The waterfalls were stunning, and the coffee plantation visit was both educational and fun. Weather is always unpredictable, but that’s part of the adventure—complaints about it are misplaced. We felt lucky and grateful for the amazing conditions we had. Overall, this excursion was a highlight of our trip, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Costa Rica!
