Saint-Émilion rises from a limestone plateau where medieval pilgrims once sought miracles and modern visitors hunt down the perfect glass of wine. On this self-guided walking tour, you’ll find out how an 8th century hermit’s cave became the foundation for Europe’s most extraordinary underground church and the world’s first UNESCO World Heritage wine region. The tour starts at the iconic Monolithic Church of Saint-Emilion, a cathedral-sized hollow carved directly into the cliff, where you’ll trace the area’s evolution from a spiritual retreat to a prosperous medieval commune. You'll also Saint-Émilion Collegial Catholic Church at Saint-Émilion, where canons once lived, prayed, and shaped the town’s spiritual life. I’ll show you about Saint-Émilion’s dual identity, with over 800 wineries occupying the same terroir that sustained medieval monasteries. The tour ends at the peaceful ruins of the Cloître des Cordeliers, where sparkling wine ages in limestone caves three kilometers deep.

Enjoy a sensory experience combining nature, wine and know-how, from the plot to the tasting. On this original tour, you'll discover this family-run agro-ecology vineyard, where vines, fruit trees and a market garden are planted side by side.

Drive the Bordeaux Right Bank yourself, with a GPS audio guide that plays automatically as you go. Your booking unlocks the whole region in the free Wine Trails app: pick your date and starting point, Saint-Émilion, Libourne or Bordeaux, and the app builds your personal route with turn-by-turn narration. Narrated stories cover the people and the ground: you'll hear why the Jurisdiction became the first vineyard landscape UNESCO ever listed, how the Jurade got its charter from King John in 1199, what blue clay does for Pétrus, and how a garagiste with a 0.6-hectare plot outscored it in 1995. No group, no schedule, no guide; pause for a long lunch in the village, replay anything, and the audio keeps working when the signal drops, because everything downloads offline. You'll need a car and a designated driver; château visits are booked and paid directly with the estates. Also works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto!

Drive the Médoc yourself, with a GPS audio guide that plays automatically as you go. Your booking unlocks the whole region. Pick your date and starting point, Bordeaux, Margaux or Pauillac, choose the châteaux you want from the eighteen mapped along the D2, and the app builds your personal route with turn-by-turn narration. The stories cover why this ground grows Cabernet: the gravel the Pyrenees sent down two rivers, the estuary that holds off the frost, the Dutch engineers who drained the marsh from 1599, the brokers who ranked the châteaux in 1855 without tasting a glass, and Vauban's fort guarding the water. No group, no schedule, no guide; stop for a tasting, take the Lamarque ferry across to Blaye, eat on the quay at Pauillac, replay anything. Everything downloads offline, so it keeps working out on the peninsula. You'll need a car and a designated driver; tastings are paid at each château and most require a booking. Also works with Apple Carplay and Android Auto!
