Reims crowned the kings of France for over a thousand years – but much of what you see today was built less than a century ago. When World War I left 60 percent of the city in ruins, Reims didn’t just rebuild. It reinvented itself. This self-guided walk tells that story through the streets themselves. You’ll find Romulus and Remus carved into a Roman arch, Champagne-making scenes glittering in mosaic on Jules Mumm’s old warehouse, and Art Deco facades that pioneering architects raised from the rubble. You’ll learn why revolutionaries smashed the sacred oil used to anoint French kings, how the Hôtel de Ville rose again after a devastating fire, and where to look for the hidden details on Notre-Dame’s extraordinary Gothic facade. Royal legends, Roman ruins and the bubbles that made the city famous – all at your own pace.
