Relaxing and stunning!
Amazing views, staff were absolutely lovely! A great way to see the countryside & suitable for all abilities. Only downer was the onboard coffee - not so great.

Tranzalpine Snowy
I have done this trip twice now. The first time was the best as there was plenty of snow on the mountains making it very picturesque and beautiful. This time around there was only a little snow and the train frequently had to stop along the track for work being undertaken so we arrived late into Greymouth from Christchurch. If you do decide to take the Tranzalphine Train make sure there is a decent amount of snow as it makes a huge difference. Staff are very pleasant and helpful.

Riding the train from Graymouth to Christchurch was a relaxing way to end our trip. The food was delicious and the wait staff was great.

  • Large bags and suitcases must be checked into the baggage carriage, so pack a small day bag to take on board with you.

  • Onboard facilities include restrooms, a café carriage, and an open-air viewing deck, as well as charging stations for laptops and phones.

  • There’s time to get off and take in the views at some stations, so dress accordingly and bring warm clothing as it can get chilly in the mountains.

  • Wheelchair access is available at all stations.
