This tour is a great way to see the traditional side of the Dominican Republic. Many tourists only see the resort side of the country, but this tour shows the country's history and culture. Start your day in Higüey, one of the most popular cities in the country. There you will visit the Basilica and the Dominican Market, where you can get to better understand Dominican culture and society. After lunch it's time to visit Anamuya River, where you will have time to swim, enjoy nature and even slide on a 100 foot natural slide into the river.

Immerse yourself in Dominican culture and nature on this half-day guided tour from Punta Cana. This convenient tour combines several different attractions and activities with transfers and food.
Your day starts with pickup from your Punta Cana hotel. Travel to Higuey by air-conditioned vehicle. At your first stop, go horseback riding at a ranch. You'll also visit the Basilica of Higuey and browse the local market.
At the Anamuya River, you can swim, play on the natural water slide, and savor a lunch of typical Dominican fare. Afterwards, learn about the coffee, cocoa, and tobacco industries at a local house and factory, and stop at an art school.
The last stop of the tour will be at Macao Beach, where you can relax on the sand, or enjoy a swim in the ocean, before getting dropped off at your hotel.

Great tour with a wonderful guide. The only issue was both my husband and I were the last to board the van and we each had to sit on separate benches made for 3 people. The other individuals were large which left us with very little room to sit. This was extremely uncomfortable.
This was an amazing experience! Our tour guide Wester was super knowledgeable, kind, patient and it was so clear he loves his job! The tour really showed you parts of DR that grounds their culture. The people are kind and the food is AMAZINGGGGGG. So tasty. 10/10, would recommend.

Robinson was a great guide and it was a really awesome overall experience. It gives a good view of what the actual DR culture is about outside the resort.
Overall, this was a very well-organized and dependable excursion. Pickup and drop-off were handled smoothly, the itinerary was well structured, and I felt safe throughout the experience.
The excursion provided a good immersion into highlights of the local culture and everyday life, with the various stops and activities being the main focus rather than continuous sightseeing narration or commentary while traveling between locations.
One thing to keep in mind is that this is much more of a full-day experience than a “half-day” excursion once travel time, pickups, drop-offs, and traffic are included. I would also recommend wearing comfortable closed-toe shoes, as the excursion includes horseback riding (optional) and walking at several stops where the ground can be uneven or wet.
Overall, I enjoyed the experience and appreciated how organized and reliable the tour was. It was a full day that brought together a variety of sites, activities, and experiences, providing a well-rounded glimpse into the local culture and everyday life!

It was a very action packed and real life experience. Seeing the culture of this country was definitely worth it.

Transportation is iffy. Our vehicle was open air (too hot for this area) and was very old and cramped. Seats were small and aisle was narrow - we were on top of each other. It was a very bumpy ride. The vehicle broke down and we missed 2 of the scheduled events - the cigar/artists and Macao. Confirm your pickup time when booking. The website said 7am, but the night before we were told 735am after we had already made cart arrangements to pick us up at our rooms so we waited quite a long time. Also, the description mentions a 100 ft natural slide into the Anamuya river - the river is almost dry and we were told that the slide was destroyed by a hurricane some time ago. Why is this still in the description? Also, the main description doesn't mention horseback riding, but if you click further there is a separate page with a description that mentions it. Unfortunately, we weren't aware of horseback riding until we arrived. The empanadas at the horseback riding stop are delicious - take the time to grab one. We could have skipped the shopping in Higuey - it was a tourist trap. It would have been great to see work by local artisans, but these were primarily "made in china" souvenirs that you could get at the airport.
On the plus side, our guide, Franklin, was awesome, knowledgeable of DR history and very entertaining. The basilica in Higuey is beautiful and we enjoyed the history. The lunch was delicious and the lesson about DR foods was very interesting. Several of us even enjoyed the horseback riding. The mountain view from there was breathtaking!

This was the BEST tour we have been on in a while!! Darwin was the most amazing tour guide, and we did so so much! He picked us up promptly, and we went horseback riding, visited the Huguey Basilica, went to a local market, had the most incredible local meal, visited a tobacco factory (and rolled our own cigars!), visited a local's house, where we got to see the process of making chocolate and coffee, went to Macao beach, and more! It was a full day of fun, and I would absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting DR. So so so much fun!!! Thank you Darwin!!
Super interesting to see the DR outside of a resort! We had Robinson and his daughter, they were so kind and funny! Would definitely book again!
For starters, the host Teo is as great as all of the other reviews note! Super cool and knowledgeable about the culture (also super funny). Really an amazing JAM PACKED excursion. My only note to those considering this is that it WILL take longer than 5 hours, being more like 8 hours from start to finish.
Our driver and tour guy were very friendly. We went horse back riding, Higuey market, the cathedral church, Anamuya River and had lunch there the food was delicious. Then we went to learn about Coffee, vanilla cocoa and fruit tasting and saw one of there humble homes and cigar factory and last Macao beach . Was a long day long ride. I feel they should have left out the beach cause by the time we got there we were all tired. A good 8 to 10 hour trip..
It is worth the money. We had Robinson as tour guide and he was so knowlegeable, friendly, patient and was able to communicate with both English and Spanish speaking tourists. I recommend this tour if you want to see a glimpse of the way of life and culture of the people in Dominican Republic beyond the glitzy walls of the resorts. I’m glad we did this tour!
Good except we had to walk from a random parking lot to our lobby. When everyone else got dropped off at their lobby. But overall the experience was good.
Our, driver and tour guide, Francisco, was nothing short of friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. We started the day with horseback riding, followed by a visit to the cathedral, a little shopping, lunch at the Anamuya River (be sure to take pics in the river), a cigar shop, a typical house, and the beach. It was a welcomed, reasonably-priced getaway from the resort.
Our guide Francisco made the tour very fun! His communication was great and he was punctual with picking us up from the resort. The van was clean and the air conditioning felt like an Arctic blast which our group appreciated. Our first stop was to ride horses. While I did not participate, my son and husband enjoyed it. We enjoyed seeing the locals and touring the city. We got to experience going through an actual market where everything is fresh (my son was shocked to see the skinned cow heads and chickens). My favorite part of the experience was going to the restaurante, that chicken, rice and beans was so delicious! Overall the trip was good. I would highly recommend.
