This was certainly a culinary adventure! Our guide Jeannie took us throught the streets to enjoy Malaysia's fibe local dishes and drinks. It was great learning about the vibrant history of food due to the mixing of cultures over time. The tastings were very generous! Make sure you turn up with an empty belly! My favourite was learning how to appreciate Durian!!!

Ian was absolutely brilliant as a tour guide. He was always flexing to the needs of the two families. He was full of energy and enthusiasm. He encompassed history and deep knowledge of food and the area. We got off the beaten track, and the food street food was delicious and took us to places we would not have visited.

Great tour with Ian last night. The experience was great, food was delicious and we visited many local vendors. The variety of food was amazing- we tried several things that we would not have tried on our own. Great value for money and a great evening. Ian was very friendly and knowledgeable.

A fantastic experience taking in the local Malay culture and delicious food. Very knowledgeable and experienced guides. Highly recommend. We had a large group of 15 and they figured out how best to accommodate for a great experience

Excellent tour with super-friendly guide - Stephen rocks!

Daniel_C, Aug 2026
The tour and mix of flavours is outstanding, from spicy and salty to sweet delights. A wide range of flavours, textures and ingredients makes for a fantastic tour. From small, family run street cafes, roadside stalls and all the way to a bigger restaurant toward the end, the tour is designed to have small samples of lots of different dishes - watching roti be made, trying all kinds of Malaysian fruits, including durian, sweet tea, local drinks and a delightful mango-coconut dessert. I cannot speak highly enough of our guide, Stephen. Warm, funny, generous and kind with expert knowledge (even if he does support Liverpool - nobody’s perfect, Stephen :-) ) Big thanks to Stephen for his hospitality and going over and above the call of duty. Thoroughly recommend this tour to any family ready to sample the delicious food that the backstreets of old KL have to offer.

The best food tour

Jenny_R, Aug 2026
Absolutely would recommend this food tour. Our guide was very informative and interesting. So much food you won’t go hungry. We give this tour FIVE STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food tour well worth the experience

Branwen_H, Aug 2026
A great way to learn about the food, the culture and the history of Malaysia - this food tour with Sean was informative, diverse (flavors, context) and fun with a group of six others. Portions were well sized to allow tasting many foods (more than 15 if you count different fruits, drinks and snacks!). On a very minor point, we would have preferred more savory over sweet dishes. We were guided expertly around market stalls and ate at small family restaurants, all very well set-up.

First class experience that offered a bit of everything

Daniel_S, Aug 2026
Our guide, Ian, was the perfect host and provided a mix of history, humour and information about the KL food scene. I don't think I saw a fellow tourist in any of the places we visited and so you knew you were eating where the locals eat. The variety was great and we definitely tried things we just would never had ordered on our own. We had a 13 and 11 yr old with us and they also really enjoyed. Ian kept as his own pace, it's never rushed. This meant the tour lasted about 4.5 - 5 hours - we left very full and so value for money was top notch. Would highly recommend if you're in KL and want to try different dishes and see parts of KL you probably wouldn't go to.

Great food tour!

Non touristy food tour, very good food and ample variety and lots of food knowledge. Guide Sam very knowledgeable

Great food with a fun guide in Malaysia!

Richard_E, Aug 2026
Stephen was an amazing tour guide! He was a gracious host and introduced me to many wonderful local foods. He was fun and kept the tour interesting. I loved his approach, try a little and if you like it, ask for more! The walking was easy, yet so many different experiences, from fruit stands, small restaurants, food stands, and a bigger venue for the nation’s number one meal. So many treat and surprises! He has a great sense of humor and deeply cares about everyone on the tour. At the end, he ensures everyone has a way to get back to their desired destination. If you are visiting from outside Malaysia, be sure to bring coins from your home country! It’s fun to show them to others and get to learn about his hobby. We shared stories of our US state quarter coin collections that are displayed in a special US map booklet. A must do when in Malaysia for a short visit!

Fantastic Experience, Highly Recommend!

Emma_R, Aug 2026
Steve was a wonderful guide, I thought we were just tasting the food but we ended up with an informative, interactive experience. Steve's knowledge of Malaysian history is outstanding and the food, omg the food! I have been to KL a number of times but have not had an experience like this. I highly recommend!

Come Hungry, Leave Happy!

We had an amazing time on this food tour! Our guide was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the local culture and food. We tried foods I never would have chosen myself, and to my surprise, I loved them! It was such an authentic experience, giving us a real glimpse into how the locals live and eat. If you’re visiting, this is a true experience not to be missed. Highly recommended!

A great way to get introduced to the various foods of Malaysia and learn a bit of history as well. Our tour guide, Stephen was energetic and fun to eat with.

Firstly, the tour itself...

Lana_B, Jul 2026
Firstly, the tour itself is wonderful! You try a variety of dishes including nasi lemak, mango smoothies, Teh Tarik, Mee Goreng Mamak, Bakso, Ikan Bakar, satay, beef rendag, cendol, durian, roti, and more! It combines the history and cultural developments of malaysia in one bowl! It takes you away from the tourist traps to the local spots which you can't find on your own. Secondly, Sean our guide is AN ABSOLUTE GEM! He is patient, knowledgeable and funny! My sister and I enjoyed asking him all the questions, he matched our both food and walking pace, gave us in-depth knowledge of everything and was quite funny! Don't hesitate, get this tour and take it with Sean!

great tour

An Amazing Food Tour – Come Hungry! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Steven_A, Jul 2026
If you’re visiting Kuala Lumpur and want to experience authentic local cuisine, the Sambal Streets Kuala Lumpur Food Tour with 15+ Tastings is an absolute must! Our guide, Stephen, was fantastic. His passion for Malaysian food, culture, and history was evident from the moment the tour began. He knew all the best local spots and shared fascinating stories about each neighborhood, the origins of the dishes, and how the food is prepared. It felt like exploring the city with a knowledgeable local friend. The food itself was outstanding. There was an incredible variety of dishes, and there was far more food than we could finish. Every stop introduced us to something new, and if you wanted more of a particular dish, there was always plenty available. You definitely won’t leave hungry! What really made the experience special was Stephen’s enthusiasm and energy. He was engaging, funny, and incredibly thorough with his explanations and directions. He happily answered every question we had and made everyone in the group feel welcome and included. The value for the money is exceptional. Not only do you get to sample an amazing variety of authentic Malaysian food, but you also gain a much deeper appreciation for the country’s culture and history. This was one of the highlights of our visit to Kuala Lumpur, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an authentic, fun, and delicious experience. Be sure to come hungry!

Amazing!!!

We had such an amazing time on our food tour! Our guide, Ian, was incredibl so knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience so much fun. He took us to places we never would have found on our own and shared so much about the local food, culture, and history. Every stop was delicious, and you could tell he truly loves what he does. If you’re thinking about doing a food tour, definitely ask for Ian. He made it one of our favorite experiences in Malaysia!

Great food, great guide, great people!

Sanaa_S, Jul 2026
Started off with a bunch of strangers, unsure of how filling or varied this food tour would be. Ended as a bunch of friends, all full to bursting and satisfied with each and every food stop. Our guide Ian had a big role to play in this -- he was the best!! Super knowledgeable, friendly, charming, fun, and accommodating to all our needs. It was great to know we could trust him to take us to some top food spots, and i loved finishing the tour with an iced mango smoothie and an awesome view of the Petronas towers. AND we even had a chance to make our own rotis! All in all the perfect way to round up our holiday.

Authentic KL foodie junket

Sharad_N, Jul 2026
Tl/dr...delicious, authentic food (in copious amounts); an under-the-hood look at real neighborhoods (i.e. no tourist traps) and insightful, fascinating conversations with both our guide Ian (super enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly and considerate) and our fellow foodies. P.s....try the durian!

We left fat and happy

Matt_W, Jul 2026
Incredible experience! Neem was a delight, insightful, and a wonderful tour guide. She’s knowledgeable in all things food and will create a wonderful atmosphere for everyone!

Best tour guide ever

Amanda_N, Jul 2026
Ian is an absolute icon and truly a hidden gem of Kuala Lumpur! Not only did he make sure we experienced the best food and felt comfortable and taken care of throughout the entire tour, but he went above and beyond in every way. He was incredibly knowledgeable about both the food and the local culture, and his personality made the experience even better. He has a way of bringing people together, and by the end of the tour, our group genuinely felt like friends. This was easily one of my favorite tours I’ve ever been on. If you’re considering this food tour, ask for Ian…you won’t regret it!

Kuala Lumpur street food tour

Great experience and great tour guide. Good for experience foods that you wouldn’t normally consider.

A good food walk

Mark_S, Jul 2026
A great experience trying food and seeing areas of KL that not many visitors would try to visit and would unlikely find by themselves

Highly recommend!

CARON_S, Jun 2026
I cant rate this tour highly enough. We explored with Kiran. She was honestly amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable and committed to making sure we had a great time. We visited many local restaurants and markets throughout the evening and I lost count of the number of dishes we tried. Everything from fresh fruit and durian to grilled fish and mango smoothie. We were also able to make our own roti which was then cooked and served to us with 3 different curry sauces. We visited restaurants and parts of KL that we would definitely have missed without Kiran. Make sure you are hungry when you go. The food is plentiful and delicious. Highly recommend this tour.
