In addition, you will be treated to tea and sweets served in the pottery of the kiln. Please enjoy this special moment, which is a combination of the depth of tradition and the skill of the craftsmen.

To eat and drink in Saga is to taste a prefecture held between two very different seas. The Genkai Sea brings squid and other fresh catches to the north, while the tidal Ariake Sea supports its own distinctive seafood culture. Between them lie the fertile Saga Plain and mountain-fed waters that sustain rice cultivation and a deeply rooted sake-brewing tradition. Saga is also the land of Karatsu and Imari ware, where food, drink, and handcrafted vessels naturally meet at the table. Choose Saga City, Tosu, Karatsu, or Imari, and spend the evening at two local venues selected around your tastes. What appears on the table changes with the city, season, and availability—and that is part of the experience. Rather than following a fixed tourist menu, discover the Saga being eaten and poured that night. With a private guide helping you order and understand what is before you, dinner becomes a journey from sea and field to brewery and kiln.

Discover the story of Nabeshima porcelain in Okawachiyama, the historic kiln village where the Saga domain once produced some of Japan’s most refined ceramics. Begin with an introduction to the history and techniques of Imari and Arita ware, then walk through the village to visit local kilns and galleries. See how styles such as celadon and Iro-Nabeshima differ from workshop to workshop, and learn how the strict standards of the former domain kilns shaped a ceramic tradition that continues today.

Discover Arita not only through its porcelain, but through the town that grew around it. Visit Tozan Shrine, where ceramic works appear throughout the grounds, learn how Arita ware developed and connected with overseas markets at the local museum, then walk past tombai walls and through historic streets lined with workshops and pottery shops. By combining history, architecture, craftsmanship, and the working townscape, this tour reveals how porcelain shaped Arita’s identity for centuries.

Enjoy a walking tour around the Karatsu Port area! Explore the town, including a mansion with exquisite ranma carvings and gorgeous ceiling paintings, and Karatsu Castle, which faces one of the most beautiful pine groves in Japan. Afterward, stop by a sake bar featuring Karatsu ware. Karatsu-yaki can also be purchased at the store next to the bar and will be a wonderful memory. You can also optionally create an original art frame using pieces of Karatsu-yaki. You can also take home a souvenir of a sustainable and creative Japanese tradition. Why not spend a day with your guide in Karatsu, a city full of Japanese charms such as castles, pottery, and sake?
