What are people saying about Jakarta

A truly amazing tour
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ One of the best walking tours we’ve ever done! We’ve travelled extensively and always try to do a walking tour wherever we go, and our tour of Jakarta with Gus was genuinely one of the most knowledgeable and fascinating we’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Gus was absolutely fantastic. His knowledge of Jakarta, its history, culture, religions and people was exceptional, but what really made the tour special was his ability to bring everything to life through stories and explanations rather than simply pointing out the sights. We visited some incredible places, including the magnificent Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and one of the largest in the world, standing directly opposite Jakarta Cathedral. Gus explained the significance of the two places of worship facing one another and what this represents in terms of religious tolerance and coexistence in Indonesia. We also visited the National Monument (Monas), where he gave us a fascinating insight into Indonesia’s struggle for independence and the symbolism and history behind the monument. Throughout the tour, Gus constantly added context to what we were seeing, explaining Jakarta’s history, architecture, culture and everyday life. We came away feeling that we had learned far more about the city and Indonesia than we ever could have by simply visiting these places ourselves. The sights and little spots Gus took us to were fantastic, and another unexpected highlight was the street food. We would normally be quite cautious about eating street food when travelling, but we completely trusted Gus’s recommendations and we weren’t disappointed. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious! Gus was friendly, engaging and incredibly passionate about his city. There was never a feeling that he was simply going through a rehearsed script; it felt like exploring Jakarta with someone who genuinely wanted you to understand and appreciate it. An absolutely brilliant experience and easily one of the highlights of our time in Jakarta. If you want to actually understand the city rather than just see it, we couldn’t recommend a tour with Gus highly enough. Thank you, Gus, for an amazing time and for giving us such a memorable introduction to Jakarta!

Fun times at street food markets
A great way to learn and experience Indonesian food. Our guide was so helpful in explaining all the foods and assisted with ordering. We learned so much about life in Indonesia from her. She also took us on the subway which was an interesting experience. It was the BEST!!!

Beautiful balance between getting out and about and education
Being in Jakarta for business, we wanted to see the highlights of the city and have context. Our tour guide was eloquent and fun. He did a great job balancing getting us around and downloading just the right amount of memorable history and current realities. We came away feeling like we had a bit of a handle on the city, which is exactly what we wanted.

Fun day trip from Jakarta
Guide Gibran was great! Very friendly and very personable. Driver Mr. Man was quite professional in tackling the heavy traffic in both Jakarta and Bogor. We were with them for almost 10 hours from pick up to return to hotel. The botanical garden visit was very informative and beautiful. We had a quick visit to a puppet maker to observe his unique craft. He had puppets or masks for sale— gorgeous, but just not for us. The waterfall hike was aggressive and too much for one older member of our party. If you can make it up to the 3rd waterfall, you’re in for a beautiful view! Seeing rice growing and being tended was certainly a different experience. The lunch spot was In the rice field, so quite a unique setting. Because the traffic in the area can be heavy and unpredictable, you might have to spend more time in the car than you expect. It was worth it and we Really enjoyed the day’s activities! Thanks Gibran and Mr. Man!
