Visit Albany's Historic Whaling Station to learn about a piece of Australian history through activities, short films, and other exhibits. Stand inside converted whale-oil tanks, marvel at the skeleton of a blue whale, admire marine animal art and a collection of precious scrimshaw art, explore exhibits of whaling artifacts, and climb aboard the *Cheynes IV*, the only preserved whale chaser ship in the world.

Torndirrup's coastal sights are scattered along a rugged stretch south of Albany, across Princess Royal Harbour, and awkward to link on your own. Head out on a half-day tour with the route handled, taking in the ocean views from the summit of Stony Hill and the native bushland along the way. See the Gap and the Natural Bridge, where the waves break against the granite walls.

This half-day scenic wildlife cruise takes you from Albany to Green Island—a pelican-breeding ground that was once WA’s first vegetable garden—and across the Kalgan River, where you’ll swap your boat for a motorized wagon to go kangaroo-spotting. Offering a fun Albany-style take on a wildlife safari, you’ll also learn all about the history and wildlife of the region with an entertaining commentary from your guide.

Porongurup National Park is hard to reach from Albany without a car, and the Castle Rock trail is easier with someone who knows the way. Travel with a guide and hike to the Granite Skywalk, scramble over boulders, and climb a ladder for views that can stretch to the Southern Ocean on clear days. Afterward, stop at a local winery to sample Western Australian wines.
