Top Hermanus How to Get Around

Whale-watching usually involves a boat ride on the open water in order to view these majestic creatures. The town of Hermanus has a cliff path that is an ideal spot to see the gentle giants without having to step on a boat. Enjoy a private tour along the shores of Walker Bay where you can spot southern right whales with ease, learning about their habits from your guide.

As a photographer and Tour Guide based in Hermanus for approximately 20 years, I am passionate about the Whales, Birds & Nature. There are seabirds, shorebirds, coastal scrub birds, water birds and mountain fynbos to experience within the Overberg. You don't need to be an avid birder, beginners & nature lovers are left thoroughly impressed by the splendour of our area, and I often have guests return for a second tour because there is simply too much to take in all in one trip. I look forward to meeting you, sharing stories and finding those birds you're searching for.

Join me atop the ancient cliffs and embark on a 2 hour sensory voyage along the cliffs of Hermanus and hear the stories of how man came to live and thrive here, from stone age (cradle of consciousness) through the colonial times to modern day living. Trace the footsteps of early minds—where art, language, and medicine were born—and feel the echoes of the past come alive.

Discover the wines of the Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) Valley on this private wine tasting tour. Enjoy convenient pickup from your Hermanus hotel or accommodations and travel to four different wineries, such as Bartho Eksteen Wijnskool, Hamilton Russell Vineyards, Creation Wines, and Hasher Family Wines for tastings, with tastings included.

Maximize your chances of seeing whales by embarking on a whale-watching cruise with the company that holds the most exclusive permit in the area. Feel confident knowing that the company doesn't overcrowd the boat and head for a nature reserve that has the highest concentration of whales.

An excursion with experienced Tour Guide, Dave de Beer, alternatively our experienced field guide, both of whom have fascinating knowledge & experience of the area. Fernkloof Nature Reserve is teaming with fauna & flora, all of which makes the Reserve a hive of animal & bird activity. If you're eager to see views that will leave you breathless & know more about this beautiful part of the Overberg, we look forward to hosting your group.
