Dover to Canterbury

Would you like a small high quality, private tour of Britain's three most iconic and inspirational sites in the South East with an expert local guide? Dr Anthony Medhurst will escort up to 7 people in a comfortable air conditioned vehicle to the evocative White Cliffs of Dover; the historic city of Canterbury and its UNESCO World Heritage-listed Cathedral; and WW2 Battle of Britain sites which tell the compelling story of how the country was saved from Nazi invasion by the Spitfire and Hurricane pilots of the RAF. Here you will obtain unsurpassed views of locations over which the Battle was fought; re-live the sights and sounds of an original fighter station and an original, unchanged, pub once frequented by aircrew in 1940. Here you can enjoy a drink and re-live the precious few hours of respite for those who survived the day's fighting. Finally you will gain an expert insight into the perilous position faced by Britain and its pilots as the country stood alone in the summer of 1940.

Discover our beautiful scenery and fabulous historic 'White Cliffs Countryside' on this Private Tour - ideal for a Shore Excursion from Dover Cruise Terminal or Dover Priory Station. Don't forget to bring your camera for taking photos of our beautiful 'Garden of England'. Meet your local Blue Badge Guide before driving up to the famous 'White Cliffs of Dover' for a short walk. Drive a short distance through the old fishing villages of St Margaret's Bay and Kingsdown, once the home of Ian Fleming and Noel Coward! Continue to Sandwich once a medieval port of great importance and where Queen Elizabeth surveyed her fleet and ignored the wishes of the locals! Another short scenic drive takes us to the city of Canterbury, where we can have time for lunch as well as an opportunity for a short walk and a photo of Canterbury Cathedral - where Thomas Becket was famously murdered! We return to Dover in time for you to leave on your cruise ship/train.

This tour takes in some of Kent’s most beautiful spots, whilst stopping off at some of the lesser-known places associated with Ian Fleming, the creator of 007. Our search takes us from the golf course where Auric Goldfinger played James Bond to the home of Sir Hugo Drax; from the missile site below the cliffs where the Moonraker was launched to the village of Pett Bottom, where the young James was raised by an aunt! It is all right here in Kent! We will also see two of Ian Fleming’s real homes and head inland to visit one of his favourite pubs, where it is claimed he wrote ‘You Only Live Twice’. A must for all 007 fans!

The two great historic sites of this corner of Kent, both guided by Paul, a Blue and Green Badge guide, and planned around your ship's call at Dover. Paul meets you at the cruise terminal and drives you through the Kent countryside to Canterbury for a two-hour guided tour of the city and its cathedral, then free time for lunch. In the afternoon, Dover Castle: a guided tour with a bird's-eye view of the White Cliffs and, on a clear day, the French coast, and time to visit the wartime tunnels on your own. Entry to both is included. April to October only; in the earlier-closing months the day may run in reverse to fit the castle's hours. You are back at the terminal in good time to reboard. This is a shared day: other travelers may join you, up to 3 in all, in Paul's own car. The day runs from 2 guests: if you are the only guest booked, Paul may cancel and refund you in full, and he tells you 7 days before your call, or within 24 hours if you book later than that.
