At the heart of the Danakil Depression lies the active Erta Ale volcano, known for its persistent lava lake, which captivates adventurers and geologists alike. The region is also home to the Afar people, whose rich culture and resilience in such an extreme environment add a fascinating human element to the stark beauty of the landscape. The temperatures here can soar above 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit), creating an inhospitable climate that challenges even the hardiest of travelers. Yet, it is this very extremity that makes the Danakil Depression a site of scientific interest, offering insights into geology, volcanology, and climate adaptation. With its ethereal beauty, harsh conditions, and vibrant ecosystems, the Danakil Depression stands as a testament to the Earth's dynamic processes and offers a glimpse into a world that feels almost alien. It is a place where nature's raw power is on full display, making it one of the most extraordinary destinations on the planet.

Bale Mountains is suitably a walking, trekking and hiking area for hikers, culture and nature enthusiasts, wildlife watchers, researchers and more. The park is known for being home to the Ethiopian wolf, mountain nyala, giant Molerat and Bale Monkey. UNESCO has estimated that more mammal species would become extinct were the habitats of the Bale Mountains to decline than if any other area of equivalent size on the globe were to disappear and, when this is combined with rare amphibian species, endemic birds and spectacular flora, it is easy to see why the park is designated as a Biodiversity Hotspot by Conservation International.

The Omo Valley, often more precisely called the Lower Omo Valley, is a place like no other. Home to a number of tribal communities, the variety and diversity of life—truly a melting pot of humanity—will blow you away. We think it's a must-visit if you want to understand Ethiopia and Africa more broadly. The concentration of experience and variety, often so juxtaposed to your own daily life, forces you to reflect on what it means to be human in today's world. The Lower Omo Valley region has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the discovery of human remains dating back nearly 2.5 million years. As you explore the region, you'll discover fortified hilltop settlements, terraced fields, anthropomorphic grave markers, and rock engravings dating back 5000 years. The Omo also has some beautiful landscapes; Nech Sar National Park frames much of the region with mountains, lakes, and forests and harbours 70-plus mammal species, as well as prodigious crocodiles and the endemic animal
