We had an amazing guide named George who went above and beyond. He had a clean Jeep, was extremely accommodating and a wealth of information. He hiked with us up Richtis Gorge and then took us to the oldest living Olive tree.. George most definitely made our excursion the best ever and we are very grateful.

We're so glad Zeus's Cave ended up being part of our Crete stop, and even happier that Michael was the one who expanded the day for us. He picked us up at the port in a comfortable Land Rover, handed us water and gum, and walked us through a few different options for the day. We landed on Zeus's Cave together, and it was the best call.
The drive up was half the fun. Michael took us through the mountains, on and off road, chatting the whole time about Crete, actual history but also just what life is like there now, not the tourist brochure version. A few times he pulled over and hopped out to pick wild herbs growing on the hillside, then passed them around so the kids could touch and smell them, teaching us the Greek words for each one. Twice he stopped with kernels to feed some goats hanging out along the Minoa Path, gently warning us to watch our footing and not fall as we walked around. He also kept pulling over at spectacular lookout points and snapping photos of us with the views, and wove in Greek mythology as we drove, which my son, who is deep into the Percy Jackson books, absolutely ate up. Michael facilitated a great back and forth with him while keeping the rest of us engaged in the conversation too.
Then we got to the cave and wow. Just wow. One of those places pictures don't do justice. TAKE THE DONKEY RIDE. This is not a casual nature walk, it's a steep, hot hike just to reach the top of the cave, and it was blazing outside that day. Once you're inside though, the cave itself is cool, almost a relief after the climb up. From there it's another 200 narrow stairs down into the mouth of the cave, and the walk back up to the entrance is downhill from the top of the cave path. The area around the cave has been redone nicely too, clean bathrooms, little cafes, some souvenir shops if you want a trinket.
On the way back Michael kept the tour going, pointing stuff out, and ended it perfectly by stopping at a lookout point above the port so we could see the view before heading down to the boat.
Michael is just easy to be around, funny, clearly loves showing people his island, and somehow held the attention of two teenage boys for four hours, which deserves an award on its own. If you're doing a Crete stop, book this one, you will not regret it.

so detailled, so amazing. thanks of much for the perfect review....
Nice 4x4 and the guy was nice enough, knowledgeable etc but didn’t really do much, a cave, a place on a hill? Then a beach but just to look at. Just a bit dull - maybe there’s not much to see in Crete!

For some people its 'a cave'. For others part of the history and mythology of Greece. For some a palace is just some stones. Or nature is breathtaking or boring. Everybody has a different view and its ok. Thanks for your feedback anyway.
Such a great experience! We would have never imagined the amazing sites that we experienced on this wonderful tour.
Our guide was very thoughtful to allow us as much time as we wanted at the various destinations too.
Our family of four are very active and appreciate nature and history. We booked the VIP Luxury Private Tour- Half Day - 4x4 excursion with Land Rover specifically to explore the Cave of Zeus and hike the Gorge to see the waterfalls and swim in the pools. The assigned excursion guide communicated prior to the excursion to firm up the itinerary for our party. We agreed on the caves, hiking the Gorge and exploring the Palace of Knossos. When our guide arrived to transport us, we were notified that the Land Rover was having mechanical issues, and a replacement guide and different Land Rover would have to take us. Our original guide was very nice and apologetic about the inconvenience. The replace guide arrived 45 minutes later. He too was very nice but wasn't familiar with our itinerary, had only lived in Crete (or Greece) for four years, informed us that the Caves of Zues was not open due to government closure/restoration (for months at this point), the Gorge was too far for a half day excursion and that the waterfalls had dried up so there wasn't much to see anyway. He did his best to accommodate us and come up with alternative options to fill the four hours reserved and paid. The excursion was nothing like advertised. We requested to be returned to the port so that we could fill our time on the cruise ship. Again, both guides were very nice, but this company fell short of delivering what was promised.

Thanks for your feedback. Here some answers:
Yes we had a problem with the engine of a car in the morning. Other companies just cancel in such a case. We waked up another guide and replaced the car as fast as possible to make you happy.
Even the first driver was coming to the port to welcome you, talk with you and wait with you. you have not lost any minute.
I think we have done the extra mile what we are well known for.
About your plans and the tour:
In a short half day tour you cannot go everywhere on the island. You wanted to do 5 full day excursions in 4 hours. This is impossible.
Example: from Heraklion its nearly 2 hours drive to the requested waterfall and 2 times 40 minutes walk. Plus a swim of 20 minutes or so. its already impossible in your 4/5 hour tour.
We do many VIP Trips from Heraklion and our guests are always very happy.
Sorry but you had really unrealistic, impossible plans in your head. You have not shared any of your ideas / plans with us the days before the tour.
All Crete in half day is just impossible, even for you.

Thanks for your feedback about your tour
Excellent trip. Driver was on time, provided a ton of knowledge on Greece and Greek mythology. Stopped at a few places that weren't on our agenda along the way and even brought us to a local olive oil factory on our way back to the cruise port. Would highly recommend

thanks a lot you for your comments. We are very happy you enjoyed the day with us so much.
We had an amazing time in Crete with our guide Armin. He is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, especially concerning history and archaeology and we learned a lot about the ancient Minoan culture. We had nothing planned and on the spot he managed to craft an absolutely perfect day for my mother and I. It ended up being one of our favorite days on a multi-island trip. Thank you!

Thanks again also to your mother and you. It was a pleasure to guide you around Crete
Petra from adventure crete took us on a half day jeepsafari through the east side of crete. We learned a lot about the authentic crete and its inhabitants. Petra is a dutch speaking and such a good guide we really enjoyed our time together!
Had a perfect day touring the island of Crete with our tour guide, Eric. Loved learning about olive oil and the history of how it is made. Informative and interesting and lots of good treats to try from olive pastes to olive oils to vinegars.
