Top Hiroshima Unique Experiences

Foodies are in for a treat with the lively food culture in Hiroshima! Follow your local guide downtown as you discover hidden gems and traditional dishes. Sample delicious oysters and tuck into a forkful of national identity with ‘Hiroshima Okonomiyaki’ - much like the famed Japanese pancake dish but this version also contains yakisoba noodles and is fried in mouth-watering layers. Explore onwards to a standing bar where you can tick off local delicacies and craft beer from your list. Wander through the beautiful Shukkeien Japanese gardens for a traditional tea ceremony and the maple-leaf shaped cakes ‘Momiji manjū’ as your dessert. Our handpicked hosts are culinary connoisseurs and history buffs, bakers and bankers, students and seniors. Like the people who travel with us, they have different backgrounds and interests – but they’re all so passionate about the place they call home, they choose to spend their free time sharing it with the like-minded travelers matched to them.

You will realize what happened to the people living an ordinary life here, and how they survived after being deprived of the future they had envisioned. You will walk around Hiroshima, a beautiful and peaceful city reborn, and feel the underlying strength of the people who rose from the ruins. I worked as a local government official in the Hibakusha (A-bomb survivors) Support Division for 12 years and continue interacting with Hibakusha. Therefore, I can accurately convey things about A-bomb survivors, the reconstruction of Hiroshima, and the effects of radiation on the human body to you. The Tower of Hiroshima Castle is a museum where you can learn about the history and culture of Hiroshima. Also near the castle are the A-bombed trees and the remains of the communications room where the first news of the atomic bombing was transmitted. Soothe your tour fatigue at the beautiful Shukkeien, a Japanese garden.

Meet a Hiroshima local to discover the city through their eyes rather than a sightseeing itinerary. After hearing your wishes via phone or app, your Hiroshima local will craft a private walking tour around your interests or their favorite areas. Cue a walk that brings Hiroshima to life through a local’s perspective: with cultural insight, pointers on sights, transport, and food; and conversations that help immerse you in the city.
