What are people saying about Meteora

Beautiful Meteora
The bus ride of 4 hours each way is a little daunting, but Meteora itself is awe inspiring. There was no commentary at all during the 8 hrs there and back. When we arrived in Kalambaka, we picked up our guide Clement who was lovely and informative. We walked up at least 700 steps, definitely got the cardio today! I don’t remember it being quite as difficult 30+ years ago. Food was cafeteria style, got us in and out. Bathroom stops were clean and ok.

Awesome experience, would book again!
We had a great tour guide that was fluent in multiple languages and very knowledgeable. Delphi was amazing and we were lucky regarding weather, but the Meteora segment of our trip had heavy rain. That is no fault of our guide or the tour company, and we still had a great trip.

Wonderful trip, excellent guide
Took a day to meteora . Comfortable vehicle , a safe & careful driver. The scenery is unique, the monasteries fascinating. My guide/ driver, Fotis, was knowledgeable, and charming. His local expertise allowed me to make the most of the day. Strongly recommended

Meteora byzantine monasteries perched on top of steep rocks, Greece
  • Wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen and water, and prepare to walk---all but one of the monasteries is reached by steep steps.

  • Visitors to the monasteries must have their shoulders and knees covered, and wraps are provided at the entrance.

  • The best options for restaurants and cafés are in Kalampaka, so bring a packed lunch if you plan to spend the day.

  • Be sure to check the opening days and times of the monasteries in advance, as they vary.

  • Plan to visit two or three monasteries on a day tour---to visit all six, you will need a 2-day tour.

  • St. Stephen's Monastery (Agios Stephanos) is the only wheelchair-accessible monastery.
