Horton Plains is a national park in the central highlands of Sri Lanka in an elevation of 2100-2300m (6900-7500ft) and encompasses montane grassland and cloud forest. It is rich in biodiversity and many species found here are endemic to the region. This is also a popular tourist destination. You will enjoy 2-3 hours of walk to experience all these beauties. The Horton plains are the head waters of three major Sri Lankan rivers; the Mahaweli, Kelani and Walawe. The plains' vegetation is grasslands interspersed with montane forests and includes many endemic woody plants. Large herds of Sri Lankan sambar deer feature as typical mammals and the park is also as important for many species of birds not only endemic to Sri Lanka but restricted to Horton plains. We will start trip early in the morning from Nuwaraeliya. Horton plains National Park is located 32 km away from Nuwaraeliya, Pattipola road via Ambewela in the highest tableland of Sri Lanka. We will drive to the starting point of the Horton Plan National Park. From the starting point we will start hike through marvelous plateau is covered by Montane evergreen forests, Cloud forests, Grass lands, Marshy Lands and Aquatic eco systems. Horton Plains is one of the most important catchment areas which act as a giant sponge to store rain water. during the journey you can observe of large number of rare and as well as endemic flora and fauna species. The escarpment ‘Maha Lokanthaya ‘ ( Big Worlds End ) and the sparkling Baker’s falls are the amazing wonders which exceed the attractiveness of the plains. Make an early start to Horton Plains National Park . This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you'll take a guided walk along the nature trails to a viewpoint known as World’s End. A variety of wildlife including endemic Rhino-horned and Hump-nosed Lizards, highland bird species including the Sri Lanka White-eye, Dull-blue Flycatcher, Sri Lanka Bush Warbler, Yellow-eared Bulbul may be encountered. Also keep your eye out for troops of Bear Monkey, and Sambar which are regularly seen in the plains close to the entrance. You will continue your journey up to Bakers waterfalls. Leave Horton Plains & arrive at Nuwara Eliya for the lunch at a Local restaurant . After lunch you will be taken to Visit a Tea Plantation and a Tea Factory.
