Yes, sunset cruises are not only a scenic, relaxing way to see Florida’s Gulf Coast, but they also help you get away from the crowds around Clearwater Beach and Pier 60. You’ll also get the chance to spot wildlife (such as dolphins), take photos, and sip a drink while chatting with your guide about all things Clearwater.

Group cruises typically cost around US$40 per person, with discounts available for kids. If you’re looking for a private sunset cruise, expect to pay a starting price of US$250—you’ll get a higher level of service and an itinerary tailored to your preferences.

Some guests choose to get dressed up for photos on their sunset cruise, though Clearwater has a relatively casual dress code, and shorts and T-shirts are totally appropriate. Whatever you wear, bring sunglasses and sun protection to put on while it’s still light out, plus a light layer for when the sun goes down.

Dolphins are plentiful in this part of the gulf, and you might be lucky enough to spot some pods leaping from the waves while on your sunset cruise. However, spotting wildlife is never guaranteed, so consider booking a dedicated dolphin-watching cruise for a better chance of seeing the animals.

There are lots of opportunities to see the sunset in Clearwater, from the white sand along Clearwater Beach to restaurants that have rooftop decks with unobstructed views. Check the sunset time before you head out so you can get to your chosen spot early, especially during peak season or at popular places such as Pier 60.

Clearwater sunset cruises typically run for two hours, giving you time to admire the sky’s changing colors and see a few points of interest along Clearwater Beach and the Intracoastal Waterway before heading back to the dock. Sunset cruises typically don’t allow time for swimming and snorkeling, so book a half-day charter if you want to jump in the water.

The Sunset Celebration Cruise on Tropics Boat Tours is one of the area’s best reviewed, most affordable sunset cruises. Starting at US$37 per person, the 2-hour tour includes live commentary from your guide and a Champagne toast while you soak up the views. Prices for private cruises are much higher.

Departure times vary depending on the season, so read the description carefully and plan to check in for your cruise about an hour before sunset. Tours are timed so you can settle onto the boat and reach open water by golden hour. From there, you’ll be able to take in the sunset views for an hour or so before going back to the marina.

Inclusions vary by tour. The 2 Hour Sunset Cruise in Clearwater, Florida, for example, includes a glass of Champagne and a guide who will tell you about the area’s landmarks and wildlife while you sail. There’s also a restroom on board, plus water, soda, and alcoholic drinks available for purchase.

While cruises run year-round, the best time for Clearwater sunset trips is typically during the fall. Winter is lovely but crowded, and autumn offers a more relaxed experience on and off the water. Plan your tour in October or November for warm weather, low humidity, and thinner crowds, plus calm water for cruising.

Yes, some cruises allow you to bring whatever food and drinks you like, including the Seasonal (OCT-MAR) Sunset Cruise - Clearwater Private Cruise, which also provides a cooler, ice, and bottled water on board. Other cruises don’t allow outside food and drinks but offer refreshments for purchase, so check ahead before booking.

Sunset cruises typically depart from the Clearwater Beach Marina, which is close to the action on Pier 60, or the Seminole Street Boat Ramp, just north of Downtown Clearwater. Arrive 15–30 minutes early to check in for group cruises, and if you book a private cruise, you can often choose the meeting point that works for you.

If the weather is unsafe for cruising, most tours will cancel and offer you the choice between a rescheduled date or a full refund—but check in advance since cancellation policies may vary. To avoid missing out, aim to book your sunset cruise early on in your trip, so you can more easily reschedule if needed.
