A fun experience with our guide Guy! Great mix of people of all ages enjoying some spooooooky stories and walking the grounds and through the church, penitentiary, dwellings and cells. Our first ghost tour and it was just great! Light hearted and interesting.

We chose a dark, stormy night for our ghost tour. We qwre lucky and missed the rain. We didn'r experience any supernatural phenomena, but Tony (our tour guide) was a great storyteller and told tales that had a shiver running down our spines. Given the dark history of the place, an afterdark tour was perfect. Great value, wpuld recommend.

Ghost Tour

Mitchell_F, Feb 2026
Cool experience, but wish we were able to see more of the buildings/rooms. At times it felt a bit underwhelming due to simply listening to stories versus being able to explore a little bit.

The best way to see Port Arthur

Fantastically Spoooooky! 👻

This was so much fun, especially in the dark ( daylight savings means you need to book the later tour. Our guide “Glen” was phenomenally good at what he does and I had the heebeejeebies the whole time . As did my daughter who’s birthday was that day ( turned ten). She asked, “ when can we do this again?”.. looks like we will be returning for round two 🤣👻.

Was very fun and engaging tour. The tour guides are so passionate with their story telling and how much they try setting the tone and the scene for the tour.. they share some incredible stories whether yoh believe in ghost or just cringe hearing the horrific history.. just Come open minded, but also plan for weather..

An interesting spooky experience!

Kylie_B, Jan 2026
The Port Arthur ghost tour is not as ‘scary’ as you may think. The stories are informative and a little spooky but all in good fun. Our guide knew his stuff and had been taking ghost tours for 27 years. Tours are best done in the dark so in Summer the latest tour time would be my pick. A bit of walking involved but easy walking with frequent stops and some ground is uneven. A unique experience that I’d recommend.

Enjoyable Event

Tara was a great enthusiastic tour guide. The group had some good laughs and scares throughout the tour. Many participants became nervous at various points including myself.

Port Arthur tour by night- rather than a ghost tour.

corey_s, Jun 2025
More of a night tour of Port Arthur, with some stories of ghosts. Didn’t go into the dissection room, which was a major disappointment. Was also advertised that we would get a “bravery certificate”. Never got one of these. Quite disappointing really.

Awesome tour go on it...

Donna_B, Mar 2025
Awesome tour go on it guide made the tour enjoyable with the right amount of spookiness and facts loved it

Lots of interesting information and stories. Friends from the US came with us to do the day visit & the night visit. They had a great time. Thank you for having us.

Intriguing and investing tour

Marieanne_W, Feb 2025
Some of the walkiing was fast paced so wear comfortable shoes to walk in and a light jacket. The walking didn't effect us, but if your elderly I felt the walking was a bit fast, with some slight hills( maybe a little more time is required for this) Overall it was a great experience and a fun tour. Definitely worth doing!

Very informative, great...

Very informative, great tour. Dave our tour guide was very entertaining. Highly recommend this tour.

Great experience

Kellie_B, Apr 2023
Port Arthur Ghost tour was great fun. Tour guide was very informative and had lots of stories to tell. We were lucky that the night was perfectly still & quiet, but unfortunately no ghosts were seen or heard on our particular tour. I did capture an orb in one of my photos though! I would like to go back one day & see the establishment during daylight hours.

Dave the legendary tour guide was outstanding!

Dave the legendary tour guide was outstanding. My kids said he was like an NPC character in Skyrim the game and I totally agree. He made the experience so much more! Thanks Dave! :)

Port Arthur Ghost Tour

Deb_G, Apr 2023
Christine, our guide - was very knowledgeable and engaging with the telling of stories of lives lived -and of the spirits that dwell within the site. It was a dark, cold, rainy and rather gloomy night, which created an eerie atmosphere. The candlelit lantern, sometimes being the only light, added to the effect. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

See Port Arthur by night on a ghost tour filled with great stories

Rebecca_G, Apr 2023
We fortunately had our Guide Jim twice at Port Arthur and he was great fun on the ghost tour! Full of interesting historical and ghost stories and with a little theatrical style, he led us through the dark by lantern and moonlight and let us into several buildings. The spookiest one is definitely the asylum, it's daunting to imagine the dreadful lives of the men here. This hour-and-a-half tour sped by. It's mostly even ground and easy walking, with some steps. Highly recommend it!

Perfect night in a special place

Robyn_R, Mar 2023
We had a sizeable group but could still hear and see everything. I carried the end lantern, the atmosphere was great. But didn’t see any ghosts 🙁

Excellent experience and great info. We did the day tour the following day and the information was really helpful. Great tour

Staged and scripted

Angus_K, Mar 2023
Very disappointed in this tour. The guide was great fun and we assume a paid actor as he recalled his script without faulting. But the tour is nowhere near as spiritual as the ones we have been on at other destinations. We believe they have changed this tour recently and frankly it is really a bunch of people being told scary tales about what others have seen and witnessed and we all were in a group and chaperoned to each point that had been staged for the tour. Don’t waste your money

Have done the tour before but changes. Always an amazing tour with knowledgeable guides. Lots of fun and like us a bit of action.

Excellent ghost

Our tour guide Robert was great. He had lots of knowledge, stories (both intriguing and funny) and perfect timing to keep you looking around.... wandering. Definitely recommend doing.

Me being a Sceptic and partner a believer decided to do the night tour, stories of went on there in the early days very horrific for all, our guide Ross (Martin) made the tour exiting, frightening and at times humoures was well worth the tour

It was a cold night, drizzling rain. We were in a group of 20 people with a couple of lanterns to light the way. Scene set for a spooky experience. Guide was informative but spoke to fast and was difficult to understand most of the time. Only thing to make it better would be seeing a ghost!

Joanne_E, Jan 2017
It was pretty amazing! We arrived at the historic sight at 8:30am and left at 10:30pm. The tour grants access to other areas not open during the day. The only disappointing thing was the lighting when walking through the sight. The lantern bearers where all huddled together and not spread out which was rather dangerous. A few people started using their mobile phones to light the way so we followed suit. Still a really enjoyable experience though.

I enjoyed hearing about the stories...

Vivien_K, Jul 2016
I enjoyed hearing about the stories in atmospheric settings. The guide was informative and entertaining.

The guide tried to make it scary...

Anthony M, Apr 2016
The guide tried to make it scary, but I found the tour rather mundane. it was still extremely interesting nonetheless.

This was a great fun tour, the kids...

Jennie L, Apr 2016
This was a great fun tour, the kids were nervous going to bed that night but still really enjoyed themselves. Well worth the money.
