Excellent trip. Picked up at the agreed time by Winston, he was an entertaining and knowledgeable guide. The rum tours were great, the Abbey had an interesting (but difficult history) with a more sedate atmosphere , whereas Mount Gay was more boisterous and fun. Highly recommended trip

Our driver gave us a beautiful view of the island on all the twisty roads with lots of facts and info about the history of the island and current life on the island. The rum tours were delicious and informative. A fun day! Also, all pick up times and tours were very prompt but never rushed.

Rum tasting small group tour

Grace_O, Feb 2026
This was really well done. Lisa was on time for the pickup and was extremely informative and interesting with her lively commentary, and deep knowledge of the history and geography of Barbados. We had sufficient time to enjoy the rum tastings and distillery demonstrations, as well as stops in Bathsheba and a couple of extra locations that we asked for a photo opportunity on route. The roads are pretty rough and narrow, so I was glad that Lisa was behind the wheel. A full day of enjoyment! Highly recommend.

Rum tasting tour

Julie_C, Nov 2025
Winston our driver for the day was really pleasant. He was quite informative with the history of the Barbadian island and the land marks we passed on the way. He was a very careful driver as well. He explained about what we were doing when we arrived at St Nicholas Abbey plantation. We went on a steam train ride first, then had a guided tour of the house and the distillery. Megan was a really good tour guide. She was very friendly and informative. Then we had rum tasting afterwards. Then Winston took us for our lunch, which was included in the package. It was really nice and tasty. Then we went to the Mount Gay visitors centre where we watched a short video of how they make rum. Afterwards we had more rum tasting. The guide we had was really good. He was very friendly and funny and told you all about the different rums we tried. Then Winston picked us back up and dropped us off back to our hotel. I would recommend this experience and well worth the money.

Excellent example of colonial plantation inside and out rum tasing was wonderful at the abby

Kerry_R, Jul 2025
Not much walking, I get around with a cane. The grounds were exquisite and the antique cane crushing machines were cool!

Nice day

We enjoyed our day. Glyne was very knowledgeable and he fit in passing a few additional things of interest along our way also.

Great day out

Gained knowledge of Rum but also of Barbados

Sean_L, Apr 2025
Very good and informative trip. Our driver was exceptional and thought us alot about Barbados. We were able to see the sugar cane mill at work and taste some of tge finest rums

Amazing Tour! History of Rum and Barbados plus Beautiful Bathsheba Beach

Patty_B, Apr 2025
I would have given this tour a 5 star review , however our tour guide Ryan was not a pleasant person, he seems burned out and does not enjoy tourist, either Americans or woman! Don't know which!! He was very knowledgeable and did lighten up a little after a few unfriendly words were exchanged!! He was condescending and arrogant at times! He was also in a rush with little time to shop or experience beautiful Bathsheba Beach. And it seemed like he changed up the itinerary to meet his needs and not ours. I definitely recommend this tour but with a difference tour guide!!

Three stars

Daniel_V, Mar 2025
First, 10 am means 8:15am, Driver was fantastic but ride is rough due to poor road conditions. Skip move at St. Nicholas abbey or you will not have time to sample runs and purchase. Mt.Gay tour is not as good as St. Nicholas Abbey but the tasting is better. Overall good trip but too expensive.

Barbados History of rum island tour

Kimberly_A, Feb 2025
The tour was exactly as described in the booking. Charles Marshall as our main tour guide was a lot of fun while providing us with interesting information about the island as well as delivering us punctually to each of our attractions. It was a full day that included tours by appointed guides at each destination, a quick lunch and several rum tastings. Great tour! FYI. XO rum at Mount Gay not to be missed😊

Harry_S, Feb 2025
Long travel (c. 45 minutes) to the Abbey. Abbey rum tour and tasting less of an experience than Mount Gay.

A must for rum lovers

Kathleen_B, Nov 2024
Really enjoyed both St. Nicholas and Mt. Gay. Excellent guides at both. Beautiful views all around. Dunstan, our driver, was great! He's very knowedgeable about tje history, and happy to share what he knows.

Worth the money and time

Winston was a great tour guide. He was informative and kept us from being bored as we moved from place to place.

Fantastic Rum and Interesting Historical Learning Experience

Remi_P, Jun 2024
My sister and I had a great time throughout the entire rum tour! At the St. Abbey rum tour, our guide Virginia was very friendly, funny, and informative. My curiosity was set ablaze when she talked about the history of the house and the sugar cane plantation. She showed us around the property and how the sugar cane was processed. Very interesting to witness! We also got to try sugar cane for the first time and it was tasty too!! We tried two of their rums, and it was impressive taste for both of them. Virginia also let us try one of their Sorrel liqueurs... it was soooo good, as well as St Abbey's rums. We didn't hesitate in buying our favorites there lol! At the Mount Gay Rum Tour part, it was another interesting experience learning about the enslaved people and how Sir John Gay Alleyne was apart of the abolition of slavery. Our tour guide (I wish I could a remember his name but he wore glasses and had a super cool Pokemon sleeve tattoo), and he was funny, clever, and enlightening! We tried four of their Mount Gay rums, and they were all really good -but be careful with their Silver line, that bad boy is a doozy-. Along the way to both of the tours, we were driven by a really cool tour driver/guide, and he told us all about the landmarks we passed, some of the regular everyday life in Barbados, how Bajans have many Centenarians, and we even got to see Rihanna's childhood home. My sister and I would highly recommend this rum tour experience, and hopefully you'd be guided with the fantastic people we got to have as well.

Winston the guide was superb

Andrew_W, Jun 2024
Winston the guide was superb as were the guides at st Nicholas abbey and mount gay.only thing I'd say is this goes to the mount gay visitor centre in Bridgetown NOT the actual mount gay distillery in the north of the island!! I either didn't notice or realise the difference when I booked it. Was still good though!

Loved this tour

Margie_P, Mar 2024
Lisa the guide gave a lot of insight about living in Barbados. She is an excellent driver on the crazy roads.

Phenomenal historical tour and run tasting!!

Thomas_A, Jun 2023
Simply outstanding! A historical rum tour on steroids. Two tours that are completely different wrapped into one. The Abbey was deep in hands-on history and wonderful view with a train ride. A single run tasting… small batch production only. Mt Gay was a tasting extravaganza. Both guides were phenomenal! Our driver (Winston) was a tour guide himself and included some extra stops too!!

Wonderful experience, just wish we could've tasted more rum!

Jennifer_M, Feb 2023
Great tour and tour guide! I wish we could've spent more time at St. Nicholas Abbey we could've learned more about and tasted more of the rum - more like our experience at Mount Gay - but the beautiful facilities and railway tour alleviated some of that disappointment!

Worth it for Mount Gay and Bathsheba

Tammy_T, Jul 2022
Our tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the Rhum tour at Mount Gay. It was well worth the visit and the tasting. We also enjoyed viewing the mansion. The lady who provided our Manson tour was lovely and well-spoken. However, we found the train ride to be a waste of time and rather pointless. We sat for over an hour and it was crammed with additional tourists. The wine tasting by the mansion was also a waste of time. We were offered hardly a sip and it was cramped with other tourists. And the owner’s son who does the wine “tasting” made off color, flirtatious jokes that many women such as myself did not appreciate. He laughed at his own jokes and many of us did not find them funny. It left a foul taste in my mouth and I’m not talking about the sips of wine. My party of 3, we felt this tasting and train ride were an epic waste of time and left grossly disappointed. Finally our stop at Bathsheba was quite lovely and much appreciated.

Great tour with rum tasting and train ride.

Karen_S, May 2022
Lisa was an excellent guide, lots of fun and very knowledgeable. Started the morning at Mount Gay with a fantastic Planters Punch, a little early at 10 a.m. for a drink. Ample tasting of rum during tour. Train ride at St. Nicholas Abbey was very pleasant. Great view overlooking the ocean during the stop to move engine. Meghan was a good tour guide at the abbey. We were able to see crushing and grinding of sugar cane to make molasses. More rum tasting at the abbey. Lunch was very good and filling.

Charles was awesome!

Daniel_E, Apr 2022
Charles our driver was awesome!! So informative, funny and accommodating. If at all possible I would definitely request him again with any tour!

Pretty average...

Grant_E, Feb 2020
It was good to learn a little about the history of the island and the origins of rum but it was a but rushed between finishing there and getting to the caves. Although the guide at the rum tasting was good we did have to miss the last bit of the tasting to get to the caves on time. The caves were ok but overall we probably spent just as much time travelling as we did at the tourist attractions.

Don't go on an empty stomach!

Catherine H, Oct 2019
This was a really well organised and slick trip that started around 11am. The Mount Gay tasting was first and including tasting 6 different rums so eat something before you go - you have been warned! This was a tasting tour so although there was a lot about the history of Mount Gay, there was little to see. Next on to Harrison's Cave which are well worth a visit. We took the electric train which is the easy way to see this natural wonder although you will still get slightly wet. Thanks to Lisa for taking us around.

Response from Host, Oct 2019

LOL your review made me laugh ..... yes you have been warned. In fact that is just what I do when I take a booking for this tour because lunch is not included and an empty tummy and a few rum samples can make a straight line not so straight :) Happy to hear you enjoyed your experience with Lisa at Mount Gay and Harrisons Cave.

Great Guides

ConnieNoreen_R, May 2019
I was the only one solo but felt so included from Steven the driver and during both tours..Both guides informative , entertaining , helpful.. Definitly recommend this tour

Mixed emotions

Thomas R, Jul 2018
The Harrison Cave was definitely worth seeing, but do it without the Mount Gay Rum tasting. The. Mount Gay segment was a disappointmen. Rather than going to the actual distillery you are taken to a visitor center, shown a short video the allowed to taste a couple shots of rum. We found it to be a waste of time

My tour to Mount Gay

I was truly disappointed with this part of my tour because my voucher stated clearly that the cocktails was included yet we was told on the tour we had to pay. Not cool

We had such a great time on this tour! Our driver came right to our hotel in a luxury vehicle and was pleasant and informative throughout the tour. He was always waiting close by to get us to our next destination with no hesitation. I chose this tour because it did the rum tour first and the caves second and I'm so glad I did. We had no crowds at the caves which is not the case earlier in the day. The driver got us to the rum tour early, which allowed us to enjoy a cocktail and relax before the large group came. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to see these sites on the island!
