What To Expect

Be dressed for a day of adventure (comfortable clothes and hiking shoes) for morning pickup at your Castries hotel or the cruise port. Meet your driver and take off in a comfortable tour vehicle for the Pitons.

Upon arrival, meet your dedicated tour guide and get a bottle of water to take with you. Start up the trail, taking it at your own pace, and stopping four times along the way to take breaks and snap photos. Most people take roughly two hours up and two hours back.

When the hike is finished, you can cool off with a provided water or beer, then spend some time exploring that side of the island or having lunch in a local restaurant if time permits.

Return to Castries for drop-off at the end of your adventure.

Our driver was super knowledgeable and very entertaining. He also explained a lot about the island and the various areas we passed on the car ride there as well as back to our hotel. When we arrived we had our own tour guide. She was extremely nice and helped to guide us up and town the climb. As for the climb itself it is very challenging but we knew it was the one thing we didn’t want to miss. The tour guide and driver made our journey very pleasant and we are much appreciative.

Mission Accomplished

Nancy_J, Feb 2025
One of our toughest hikes, go early, pack plenty of water, we passed many who turned around, take your time watch your footing and enjoy the jungle. Lots birds, tree frogs we actually saw a mongoose and stray cats along the way.

Don't do if you're coming off of a cruise!

Michael_M, Jan 2025
Came off of cruise and it took over 3 hours round trip to do this hike. The hike itself is over 4 hours. We were not informed about the length of this tour or that the entrance fee would be $100 to get in to the hike. Extremely long, unable to complete because of running out of time, and extremely expensive! Cab driver had to stop for gas, water for us which was supposed to be included and stopped at his home to drop off some groceries he bought.

Do it yourself

'Not worth the money. You can take a taxi and you get a guide when you pay the entrance fee. Was promised a private guide but was told when we arrived that it was too crowded and we'd have to join a group. The taxi driver was helpful and advocated for us so they sent us with a 14 year old kid who basically walked ahead of us and didn't say anything. Still had to pay entrance fee of $50 per person so not sure what the $159 was for!

Response from Host, Dec 2024

The experience at the hiking trail is not on our part it on the hiking people part. They promise a service so this is the reason that we lobbied for you. Our part is to provide you the transpotation and get you to the hiking trail and wait for you so we can get you back safly to your resort which we did. Hiking experience should have been placed on the hiking place website. We do not deserve a 2 star for keeping up to what we were paid for to do.

Beautiful Gros Piton hike

Most excellent tour. Professional guide and transportation. Strenuous yet satisfying hiking. Multiple opportunities to stop take pictures, refreshments etc. our guide, Errol, was most excellent!

This tour is a taxi to the park and back

Anna_K, Jan 2023
Hike is amazing! But this tour just buys you the taxi there - it’s an additional 50 per person for the mandated guide. Pay attention to the pricing. Taxi driver was very nice.

Response from Host, Jan 2023

As in the description it is stating that entrance fees are not included. We are sorry that you did not notice that was written in there.

Definitely Go but don't book with Viator

Samantha_G, Dec 2021
The EXPERIENCE itself was GREAT! But, I would never book with Viator again. I feel like we paid too much since Viator did not provide a tour guide or anything other than transportation and 2 bottles of water. Our hotel offered a guide, transportation and tickets to the Park for less money. You are better off booking this with your hotel in St. Lucia OR just paying for transportation and going with a guide provided by the park itself. The fine print on the Viator booking was contradictory. On one part of the document it stated that entrance fee was included, on the same document it said they were not. The park did not honor our tickets with Viator and we paid an ADDITIONAL $100 to get into the park and the tour was provided by a park tour guide, as they all are. Sometimes during busy times the guides are hard to come by, so if you DO have a trip with a guide from your hotel or other tour guide it might be safer to do that, but know before you go and reserve. I was pretty ticked off that $205 was not covering all that was expected. The price of the entrance fee not included should be CLEARLY stated on the Viator 'ticket'. As for the actual tour itself, it was wonderful and our guide was very kind and even offered to carry my 2 liter bottle that the driver gave us which we were not prepared for. Definitely have sturdy shoes, a back pack and snacks. It is nice (but not expected) to share snacks with other guides (one actually asked me for some when they saw I had several that I brought with me and I ended up sharing with all the guides up there- luckily our hotel failed to provide an early departure breakfast for us and our taxi driver who was really nice, stopped at a grocery store for us and I had gotten enough to sustain us and a few others). It is a STRENUOUS hike and takes at least 1.5 hours up and one hour down, some areas of scramble. The offer walking sticks to rent at $5 each. I have never used one, so I didn't feel comfortable. If I was familiar with their use, I could see them to be helpful for the joints. The return is hard on the knees. We took 2 hours and 15 up and 1 hr. 30 coming back. The views are spectacular and it is well worth the time and expense, and the windy roads that are stomach churning to get there (dramamine is encouraged if motion sickness bothers you).

We are very sory for you experience bur for one hour and a half drive from yout resort to the hiking trail and one hour and a half dribe on return os on average US$200. It is clearly written in the discription that when you arrive at the hiking trail you will be taken to the office where you will be paying for your entrance fees, then you will be introduced to your guide. When your driver takes you on a drive for a total of three hours round trip and the driver has to wait for you for a total of 4 hours on average the total of US$205 can not include your entrance fees. If it had to include your entrance fee this means that transportation would US$100 for 3 hours of driving and 4 hours of wait time. Entrance tickets is US$100 for 2 persons. This is not logical. Thank you for using our service.

One rock climbing adventure for sure. Challenging climbing / hiking is what you will get.

Arthur_S, Mar 2019
This is more of a rock climbing event than a hike. Don't expect a smooth steep path. It is basically a steep set of rocks to traverse with some paths in between. The stopping areas are nice and offer amazing views. If you are up for a serious cardio challenge and have strong knees and ankles, go for it. Getting to the top would be worth it. But a leisurly hike it is not.

Response from Host, May 2019

Very nice to hear what you have to say and that no matter what you were still very satisfied with your experience especially the view from the top was actually worth it to you. Looking forward in continuing serving you in the near future.

Our driver Raffi was terrific. The pitons were great and our 7 year old had no trouble with the hike at all. Do to the time constraint with our cruise ship we only made it to the 1/2 way point but it didn't compromise the enjoyment of the trip at all. We loved it.

We enjoyed the Gros Piton hike and the ride worked well. The hike is quite strenuous and be sure to take water. It is well worth the time and work as the views are amazing. Our tour guide was not the best. I saw other groups with more fun and talkative tour guides. This is the luck of the draw. Overall still a fun day for us.

Strenuous hike, but well worth it. Guide was very knowledgeable about the island and the local forest and hike.
