The whole experience was...

LaurenM_W, Jun 2026
The whole experience was nerve wrecking however I do think it’s an experience everyone should experience. The guide was very knowledge and I felt safe

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! That mix of nerves and excitement is exactly what makes the 110m descent so memorable. We’re especially pleased to hear that our guide made you feel safe and confident throughout the adventure. Thank you for recommending the experience, and we hope those Victoria Falls views made it one you’ll never forget!

⚠️ Caution - Do it if you’re experienced otherwise I’d avoid

BE CAREFUL-NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE INEXPERIENCED IN REPELLING/ABSEILLING ⚠️ Safety Issue - beware ⚠️ The rig for abseiling was not properly threaded and I was unable to adequately slow my descent. My right hand glove nearly burned through. At the bottom the guide looked at my rig and said, yes it wasn’t done correctly. Fortunately there was a backup safety line and someone from the top was able to slow my decent. So, not ultimately a bad outcome, but I would never go back, nor would I recommend it to my friends or loved ones. I immediately engage the company and they have spoken to me and claim to be carrying out some sort of safety review, but it has been several days and I have not seen anything that changes my feeling about the lax safety standards I observed. I do genuinely believe that they care about safety and the owners are concerned about my issue, but that doesn’t change my experience or my point of view. BE CAREFUL-NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE INEXPERIENCED IN REPELLING/Abseilling.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that your experience left you feeling concerned about your safety. However, we would like to clarify an important point for future guests, as the suggestion that you were incorrectly rigged does not accurately reflect the system used during your abseil. We use a Petzl rack system with four friction bars. The number of bars engaged can be adjusted according to the guest's experience and the required level of friction. As you advised our team that you were an experienced abseiler, a lower-friction configuration was used to allow a faster descent. Beginners and less experienced guests are normally set up with greater friction for a slower descent. Importantly, guests do not rely solely on their own ability to control their descent. Every guest is connected to two ropes: their primary descent rope, which they use to control their speed, and a separate safety rope controlled by an instructor at the top. The instructor continuously monitors the descent and can slow or stop the guest independently if required. There is also a bottom belay, with a team member maintaining direct visual contact with the guest and able to stop the descent by applying tension to the rope. These independent safety systems are specifically designed to provide protection should a guest descend faster than intended. In your case, the safety system operated as designed and the instructor controlled your descent when required. We nevertheless take any concern raised by a guest seriously, which is why management engaged with you directly and reviewed the experience with our team. We regret that the experience did not meet your expectations. We would, however, respectfully disagree with the suggestion that the activity is unsuitable for inexperienced guests. No previous abseiling experience is required. Our team regularly takes first-time abseilers through the experience using an appropriate friction configuration, full safety briefing, instructor-controlled safety line and bottom belay. Safety remains our highest priority, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify how the system operates.
