Itinerary

Meet a driver at your hotel in downtown La Fortuna, then transfer to the Arenal Hanging Bridges to warm up your legs for a day of hiking, following a trail through the area's lush rainforest. Look for plants and wildlife at the edge of the trail, and cross a series of fixed and suspension bridges.

The next stop is La Fortuna Waterfall, reached by a 15-minute hike down a scenic trail; bring your bathing suit to swim in the waterfall, or just enjoy the sunshine at the peaceful place. After La Fortuna Waterfall, return to town to refuel with lunch.

Following your meal, head to the Arenal Volcano for another hike, following one of several trails for the best chance to spot moving lava. The cooled lava flows are home to a wide variety of plants and animals that you’ll see along the way. The hike concludes at dark, so you might be able to see glowing chunks of rock as they tumble down the mountainside.

From Arenal Volcano, head to the Paradise Hot Springs for dinner and an evening of soaking. This full-day nature adventure concludes with return transfer to your La Fortuna hotel.

Extremely Long day

rgqnvvzjw5, Sep 2023
Our guide Andres was great! We opted into the 4 excursions day which included Hanging bridges, Fortuna Falls, Volcano and Hotsprings with lunch and dinner included. For us it was personally way too long of a day. By the time we finished lunch we were ready to go back to our hotel but still had the volcano hike plus the hot springs remaining. 😅 I’d recommend 2 excursions MOST for one day

Whew! What a Day!

Emily_T, Jun 2023
This trip was action packed with lots and lots of walking. Our guide was great pointing out frogs, plants, birds and animals on the hike through the hanging bridges. Then she took us down to the Arenal waterfall, consisting of 500 steps down. We swam for a bit and made the trek back up the 500 steps. We are a delicious lunch overlooking a beautiful garden with birds. Then we took a hike around the volcano where our guide told us all about the volcano. The day concluded with swimming at the hot spring and a buffet dinner. It was a long, very active day. Would not recommend for young kids as it’s pretty strenuous (could easily be broken up over multiple days for the kids). But it was a great way to see a lot in a short time.

Best tour!

Excellent Combo Tour

Marlene_M, Dec 2019
Had a fantastic full day seeing the hanging bridges, La Fortuna waterfall and the Adrenal volcano hike. Our guides Diego, and Jason were fabulous. They shared their knowledge of plants, animals and obvious love of their country. They keenly found and pointed out birds, and other animals in the forests. We especially enjoyed our agri-tourism farm lunch while watching 15 species of birds including toucan feast on papaya. We were tired after the volcano hike but it was worth the effort. Would highly recommend Jacqamar Tours.

Good not, great. Not very active, disappointing "hike"

Kelly_M, Mar 2019
Enjoyed Hanging Bridges. Saw plenty of animals, including many that we would never have spotted without the knowledgeable guide. Lunch was very good. The volcano hike was a very short walk to a lookout point to see the side of a volcano. You are not allowed to hike on the volcano, so the description of the tour should be updated to indicate you view a volcano. I believe we were supposed to do the full trail, but the guide was walking very slowly and stopped often to talk. It seemed like she did not want to do the hike.

A long day starting with the hanging bridges trip with amazing views of Arenal volcano to start with. Our guide had incredible knowledge- she pointed out snakes, various birds, bats, flowers the bridges were amazing to walk across- best part of the tour. Waterfall hike was a nice climb and beautiful for pics but a little short to actually take a dip volcano hike was interesting with good flowers and trees pointed out hot springs were incredible- it rained in the evening and the water was really rejuvenating topped off with sumptuous buffett.

Michael O, Sep 2017
Fantastic tour and our guide Tony was amazing! He was extremely knowledgeable about the local animals and plants and was able to spot several hard to find birds. The hikes along the hanging bridges and near the volcano were beautiful. The waterfall was an amazing experience and you're able to wade in the water next to where it crashes. The included lunch and dinner were delicious and the hot springs were a perfect way to end a long day.

dougfo, Sep 2017
This was a very good tour that we enjoyed. Tony a biology teacher/professor, was our guide. He demonstrated a great deal of passion and love for the country and its environment. The tour started at 8 am and we returned to our hotel at 10:15 pm. During the tour, not only did we see the sights but also spotted the following animals: Troop of spider monkeys, toucan, numerous birds, vine snake, a tarantula in its hole and in the evening saw a baby eyelash viper. In all animal encounters we felt safe, keeping distance when needed as I am not a daring individual when it comes to snakes and spiders. We rated this tour very highly based on the quality and passion of the guide. Here are some things one should be aware of when signing up for the combo tour. It is important to be in shape. While my wife and I who are in our early 50's walk upwards of 12K steps per day Fitbit, we thought we could handle the 18K of steps associated with this tour. Shame on us but we forgot waterfalls and volcano's are not the same walking as on a flat surface. The two of us were sore the next couple days and had our activities been strenuous those days we would have had a problem. While we enjoyed Tabacon as it is a beautiful facility by day, visitors should be aware that many of the pools in the upper quadrants of the resort are essentially closed as they do not have lighting. We preferred for safety reasons to stay where there was light. Subsequently, there were only 4-5 pools from which to choose. The buffet was good at Tabacon and our 14 year old son loved the super fast slide in the main pool. However, I am not sure the extra was worth the Tabacon up-charge since in our opinion many of the pools were not reachable in the dark. One of the less expensive spas might make a more practical choice. At the time of this writing it should be noted that at the waterfall some steps were under repair and we had to navigate off the steps using ropes in the mud to descend and climb back up the 500 steps. If we had one complaint about the tour it is that there is not much time to spend by the waterfall. This is a problem as it is exhausting descending to the bottom and then having to re climb the steps 30 minutes later is tough. it would have been nice to spend another 15-20 minutes at the bottom or taking time to re-climb. FYI - There is another set of 50 steps leading down to a quieter pool below the waterfall pool. This is a nice relaxed area if you don't want to deal with the rocky shore, crowds and turbulent water by the falls. One other heads up in reference to the Volcano Hike: The emergency exit is used when leaving the volcano lava flow. This was good as it was getting dark when we reached the summit 5pm -ish. The emergency exit trail only takes 20 minutes to descend and if we were not sore, it would have been an easy trip. Bottom line, great day and worth the based on the sights and guide.

Allen and Hugo were excellent guides. Highly recommend this tour to all visiting Cost Rica. Hanging bridges were amazing, followed by the spectacular waterfall. Lunch was quite tasty and welcoming after the morning. The hike was strenuous but Allan was so knowledgeable about CR and the history that it was well worth it. The next day my calves were quite sore. Be warned! Highly recommend this and try to get Allen as your tour guide.

Thomas W, Feb 2017
The van picked us up late. Then sat parked by the lake for 15 minutes waiting for something that was never explained to us. We arrived at the park and were directed to our group. The guide told us we had kept the group waiting for 40 minutes and that the group was upset with us for keeping them waiting. I explained that I had gotten up at 5:30 am showered eaten breakfast and been kept waiting. And how dare he blame me for the delay. Especially in front of the group! Then Reynoldo or Bernardo, I can't remember his name was huffy and really only addressed one of the members of our small group, a somewhat attractive woman. Other guides were talkative and helpful. He was surly unpleasant. He was more of a thug than tour guide. Grudgingly and occasionally pointing things out. Things improved slightly by the end of the day when our group grew. This after an older man was struggling with his heart since we climbed the stairs 500 meters up from the waterfall. He just kept saying ok let's get going as the man sat couldn't do much of anything.

My husband and I absolutely loved everything about this tour. Every single stop was even more fun than we could have imagined. The tour guides were above and beyond and you could tell they each loved their job. The food... oh my goodness! Best meal in all of Costa Rica! Long day but well worth it.

This was such a fun tour! Our tour guide, Michael was amazing and so knowledgeable of the rainforest, volcano and all animals we spotted along the way. He even brought this massive lens with him so he could easily point out all the living creatures we wouldn't have been able to spot ourselves. The lunch at the coffee farm was delicious and was the exact authentic Costa Rican experience my friend and I were looking for. This tour was almost 9 hours long and by the end we were all like family. Michael, our tour guide, even had the daunting task of communicating everything twice as majority of the group was Spanish speaking while my friend and I only spoke English. But that still didn't stop any of us from havin such a great time! I highly recommend this tour and if you get Michael as a tour guide, even better!

Our family went on this tour. The hanging bridges and waterfall were nice, but you could do this on your own for a much lower price. The value-add of doing the tour is to have a guide who can spot wildlife. Unfortunately, our guide was not as skilled in this. The only wildlife we saw was as a result of other guides spotting them and us 'glomming on'. We also missed a number of species that other groups saw, perhaps because our guide was on his cell phone for part of the time. He didn't really seem to want to be there. The lunch at the coffee plantation afterward was really great, though, and worth it. Overall, I would suggest doing a self-tour and saving .
