My friend Larry and I are two 70 year old buddies since the 8th grade. We were both apprehensive about this ATV tour up to Rainbow Mountain. Our tour guides, Edgar and Edwin took good care of us, teaching us to drive an ATV. We drove the ATVs up the mountain path for about 25 minutes and then rode a motorcycle for another 10 minutes where we reached the viewing site of the beautiful Rainbow Mountain. There was a five minute walk to the viewing site but that was no problem. After spending ample time at the viewing site, we proceeded to drive the ATVs down the mountain on a different path to see Alpacas grazing in the fields and visiting another mountain with another beautiful sight. We were provided a light breakfast before embarking up the mountain and had a nice lunch after the ATV excursion. The bus ride from Cusco to the ATV base camp was about 2 1/2 hours. The van was very comfortable so the drive wasn’t too bad. For two old guys, it was an awesome once in a lifetime experience! I recommend this ATV tour to everybody! Edgar and Edwin were very patient, accommodating and great guys! It was a lot of FUN!

We have a wonderful day trip yo Rainbow mountain. Our tour guide CUTIPA take good care of us. Well organized. Well knowledge. We all take the ATV there then a motorbike, trust me, it is worth it to pay. Save more energy to get up to the mountain.. we all back down. We all can manage it with such high altitude. Thank you so much.

We did not love this tour, but we acknowledge that largely came down to a mismatch of expectations. We are not ATVers, or really the type of people who are into extreme sports. We booked this tour because my husband is very altitude sensitive, and I wanted to go to Rainbow Mountain without a lot of actual hiking.
This was a mistake on our part - turns out, you ATV on this tour to the spot where every other tour bus parks. Then, you have to pay extra for a motorcycle to take you to the top. That's fine, but we would have just bussed to that spot if we had known that's how the other tours worked.
Though the ATVs weren't for us personally, the tour did build in time at the end to take them out for an extended ride and a photo opp in front of a nearby snowcapped mountain. For what it's worth, the other tour guests seemed to be having a blast.
I will say, we didn't love the van. We seem to have paid much more than most other tours to Rainbow Mountain (presumably due to the ATVs). However, our van was pretty uncomfortable and you spend 4-6 hours in it. While other tours were in tour busses, I think our vehicle was more akin to a mini van. This would have been okay, but they booked 5 guests, a driver, and a guide, into a van with 6 regular seats and 3 small middle seats. The van did not seem to have AC and the windows didn't seem to be treated. On the way there it was freezing cold and we couldn't see out of the windows because there was so much condensation (a bummer to not see the views you booked the tour for) and on the way back it was very hot with the sun beating in.
I did find myself frustrated with the lack of communication from the tour company. We had booked and completed several other tours at this point in our trip, and the communication from this company was by far the worst. Other companies usually send a confirmation, pick up time, final guidance/tips, etc. We got nothing from this company - I finally reached out 18 hours before departure time to ask if they would picking us up, if they had the hotel address, if the breakfast and lunch could accommodate food allergies, etc. Though they did respond, they didn't initially answer all my questions. They ended up sending me last-minute guidance about 7 hours before our 4 am departure with information about what to pack and letting us know we needed to have about s/.100 in cash for entrance into Rainbow Mountain and for the separate motorcycle ride to the top. We were already packed and luckily had enough cash, but it was very last minute if we had needed to pick up cash or adjust our packing.
Also, when we returned to Cusco after the tour, they did not drop us off at our hotel the way they had dropped other guests off. They had us get out on the Plaza Mayor (at the bottom of the hill from our hotel) and we watched as they drove away up the hill we needed to walk up to get to our hotel.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed and honest review. We truly appreciate your feedback, and we are sorry to hear that parts of the experience did not meet your expectations.
We completely understand your perspective, especially regarding the ATV experience and the transportation. Our tour is designed mainly for travelers looking for an adventurous way to reach Rainbow Mountain with less hiking involved, but we understand that this style of tour may not be ideal for everyone. We appreciate your honesty in recognizing that part of this came down to expectations, and your comments help us better explain the experience for future guests.
We also sincerely apologize for the issues you experienced with communication before the tour. You are absolutely right that important information such as pickup details, recommendations, entrance fees, and extra costs should be shared much earlier and more clearly. This is something we are already working to improve with our operations team so future travelers feel more prepared and comfortable before departure.
Regarding the vehicle comfort and the final drop-off, we are very sorry for the inconvenience. We understand that after such a long day, comfort and proper hotel drop-off make a big difference. Your comments have been shared internally because these details are very important to us and help us improve the overall quality of our service.
At the same time, we truly appreciate you mentioning that other guests seemed to enjoy the ATV experience and that the extra riding time and mountain views were a positive part of the tour.
Thank you again for traveling with us and for providing such valuable feedback. We genuinely wish you and your husband all the best during your travels in Peru.

This experience was super fun. Amazing bus ride, followed by an ATV experience at such an altitude. Eduardo was very good in organising everything quickly and in a timely fashion. Icing was that they dropped us back to the pick up place.
Response from Host, May 2026
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We’re really happy to hear you enjoyed both the scenic journey and the ATV adventure up in the mountains. Eduardo will be very glad to know his organization and attention made the day smooth and enjoyable for you. And of course, after such an early and adventurous day, making sure everyone gets back comfortably is always important to us. Hope to see you again in Cusco for another adventure!

We don't know where to begin. What a great experience We chose the ATV and the back of a motorcycle adventure. What a fun way to get within a short hike's distance to a magnificent view of Rainbow Mountain. Our guide Edgar was wonderful. He constantly checked on us to make sure we were doing well with the altitude. We also got to extend our ATV tour to see the majestic Mirador Ausangate. Awesome. A really great trip!!
Response from Host, May 2026
Reading this truly makes us smile — thank you for such a heartfelt review! We’re so happy you enjoyed the ATV and motorcycle combination; it’s definitely one of the most exciting ways to experience Rainbow Mountain while still enjoying the landscapes along the route. Edgar always puts a lot of care into every group, especially when it comes to altitude and making everyone feel comfortable during the adventure. And adding the Ausangate viewpoint was absolutely the perfect choice — that view never disappoints. Thank you again for trusting Viajes Speedy and for being part of this unforgettable day in the Andes!

We had a wonderful time on this tour. Our guide Edgar and driver Marco was so attentive. They communicated and was exactly on time for the pickup. When we arrived at the ATVs, Edgar made sure that everyone could safely handle the ATV or have them go with a partner. We took motorbikes up and walked to the viewpoint. Such an amazing experience
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you so much for your kind words! It truly means a lot to us.
We’re really happy to hear that you had a wonderful time on the tour. Edgar and Marco will be very glad to know their effort and attention made a difference in your experience. We always do our best to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable, especially during the ATV part, so it’s great to hear you noticed that.
The combination of the ride, the motorbikes, and the walk to the viewpoint really makes this adventure special, and we’re glad you enjoyed every part of it.
We hope to welcome you again on another adventure in Cusco. Safe travels and thank you once again for trusting us!
Miguel_C, Apr 2026
We couldn’t be happier with this excursion. Out tour guide Edgar was so awesome. Tons of value with this purchase. We would highly recommend this excursion.
There are additional costs associated with this excursion, 60 Soles per person to get a ride to the top of the mountain and back down on a motorcycle. If you do want to skip taking a motorcycle to the top and back down, bring comfortable walking boots because it’s a 75 minute walk up, and a 60 minute walk down.
If traveling during the dry season, bring warm clothing and a good pair of outdoor boots. Prepare for the possibility of high elevation sickness.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
We’re really happy to hear you had such a great time at Rainbow Mountain and that Edgar made the experience even better—he’ll be very glad to hear this.
Also, thank you for mentioning the extra details. Just to clarify, the motorcycle service is optional and managed by local community members, which is why it has an additional cost. For those who prefer walking, it’s a great option too, just as you described.
And yes, coming prepared for the weather and altitude makes a big difference.
Thanks again for trusting us and for recommending the experience. If you’re ever back in Cusco, you’re always welcome 👍

The tutor is very professional, responsive, and punctuated.
The ATV experience is extraordinary
The elevation is 4980m
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thanks a lot for your message 🙏
Really glad you enjoyed your time at Rainbow Mountain. It’s great to hear that everything ran on time and that you felt well looked after during the tour.
The ATV part is always a favorite, so it’s nice to know you had fun with it. And yes… being up at 4,980 meters is something you don’t forget easily.
Thanks again for choosing us. If you’re back in Cusco, we’d be happy to take you out again

What an incredible experience. Cesar was the best tour guide, and the scenery was breathtaking. Make sure to hike to the Valle Rojo! Be prepared for the altitude.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you so much for your message 🙏
Really happy to hear you had such a great experience at Rainbow Mountain. The views up there are something else, and it’s even better when you get good weather.
Also, thanks for mentioning Cesar—he’ll be very glad to hear that. He’s always looking after the group and making sure everyone enjoys the day.
And you’re right about Valle Rojo… it’s definitely worth the extra walk if you have the energy. The landscape there is unique.
Thanks again for coming with us. If you’re ever back in Cusco, you’re always welcome

Wonderful breakfast and lunch. Tour director could not be more attentive and accommodating. Made sure I was able to handle ATV on own. Kept eye on my trekking down from mountain
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you so much for your words 🙏
Really glad to hear you enjoyed the breakfast and lunch, and that you felt well taken care of during the whole day at Rainbow Mountain.
It’s important for us that everyone feels comfortable, especially with the ATVs, so it’s great to know the guide took the time to make sure you were confident riding on your own and kept an eye on you during the walk back down.
Thanks again for coming with us. If you’re ever back in Cusco, we’ll be happy to see you again

We didn't get to see the colors of rainbow mountain because of snow and clouds but we were there. Good amount of ATV riding. Easy to operate even for 1st time user. I'm 68 and my wife 63 and made it up there with no problems. The guides Edgar & Elvis made sure you were always safe. When we reached the parking lot area parked the ATV's. It's an hour walk steady uphill and 30 minute walk down. To save time Edgar arranged for us to hop on back of a motorcycle to get us to the top and we walked down. Got to enjoy a good ride back a different route to check out the beautiful mountain and see lots of llamas & alpaca's. Good lunches. Early morning start 3:30am back by 5pm. Wish the weather was better but otherwise a memorable experience! If you are in Cusco and want an adventure and not do a so so City Tour this it it. Make sure you take your altitude pill, a young physically fit Italian Couple in their 20's couldn't do it because of altitude sickness!
We booked thru Viator and was not offered either Gate 1 Tours.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us.
We truly appreciate your kind words about our team, especially Edgar and Elvis. We’re glad to hear they made you feel safe and supported throughout the journey—this is always one of our top priorities, especially in high-altitude destinations like Rainbow Mountain.
We understand how disappointing it can be not to fully see the vibrant colors due to weather conditions. Unfortunately, snow and clouds are natural factors beyond our control, but we’re happy to know you were still able to reach the mountain and enjoy the overall adventure.
It’s wonderful to hear that both of you completed the experience successfully—especially considering the altitude—and that you enjoyed the ATV ride as well as the option to use local motorcycles to reach closer to the top. This flexibility is something we provide to ensure our travelers can make the most of their visit.
We also appreciate you highlighting the importance of altitude preparation. As you mentioned, even young and physically fit travelers can be affected, which is why we always recommend proper acclimatization before taking this tour.
Thank you as well for mentioning the landscapes, wildlife, and the different return route—those are truly special parts of this experience.
We’re very glad to know that despite the weather, your tour was still a memorable adventure. It would be a pleasure to welcome you again in Cusco, hopefully under clearer skies next time.
Warm regards,
Beto

Yo visit The Rainbow Mountain was incredible is about 3 hours from Cusco to another spot where you take cuatrimotos for 25 minutes then you can walk or take a motorcycle or a horse ride the rest is about 10 minutes walk the altitude there is about 5000 feet but is tolerable we really enjoyed and for us it was not the cold, the views are magical due to the minerals they explain our guide Edgar was phenomenal always making sure everybody was ok . This tour provided breakfast and lunch exquisite highly recommend.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you so much for your kind words, really 🙏
We’re very happy to know you enjoyed your visit to Rainbow Mountain. We try to keep the experience fun and accessible, without losing that sense of adventure—so it means a lot that you felt it that way.
And thank you for mentioning Edgar. He’s a great person and always looking after everyone in the group. I’ll make sure he sees your message—it will make him really happy.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the food as well. Those little details matter a lot, especially up in the mountains.
Thanks again for trusting us. If you ever come back to Cusco, you’ll always be welcome here
Brianna_C, Apr 2026
I recently visited Rainbow Mountain, and while the tour included both breakfast and lunch (which was honestly the best part), the overall experience was extremely disappointing.
What was advertised as an ATV tour quickly turned into something very different. At a certain point, we were forced to stop and leave our ATVs, then told we had to pay extra for a motorcycle ride to continue. This felt misleading—especially since we saw other companies successfully taking their ATVs all the way up. It gave the impression that this company works with the motorcycle drivers to generate additional revenue, as we were charged 70 soles total (35 soles each way).
When we finally reached the top, visibility was poor due to fog and snow. While weather is unpredictable and not the company’s fault, the overall organization made things worse. Our tour guide was frequently nowhere to be found, even while my friend and I were experiencing mild altitude sickness, which was concerning.
There were also multiple issues within the group. Some people said they had not originally paid for the ATV but were pressured into doing so. Others paid extra for the Red Valley extension, but that portion of the tour ended up being canceled. When people complained about not getting to see Red Valley, the tour guide actually blamed my friend and me for being sick, as well as a couple in our group who chose to walk. This was extremely unprofessional and unfair.
We were also told we would only be on the mountain for about 30 minutes, but it ended up being over an hour—adding to the exhaustion, especially given the altitude.
The entire day felt disorganized and frustrating, with constant waiting and very little clear communication. It also became clear that multiple tours are combined, so you don’t really know what experience you’re signing up for or what group you’ll end up with. Everyone in our group had different expectations—some wanted to hike, some wanted the ATV experience, others wanted to see Red Valley—which made the experience feel chaotic.
To make matters worse, there was also a very disturbing moment during the trip when the driver ran over a dog. Everyone on the bus heard the dog cry, and there was no acknowledgment or concern shown afterward, which was upsetting to witness.
Overall, this was the worst experience of my trip. I would strongly caution others before booking with this company.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations.
We would like to clarify a few important points to avoid misunderstandings. The Red Valley is not included in our tour, and this is clearly specified in the tour description. Any optional visits depend on time, weather conditions, and availability on the day.
Regarding the ATV route, due to local regulations and safety restrictions, there is a point where all ATVs must stop. From there, the final section is completed either by a short walk or by hiring a local motorcycle service, which is optional and clearly listed under exclusions. This service is operated independently by local community members.
Additionally, the ATVs you mentioned reaching closer to the summit belong to local villagers, and their use involves an additional cost of approximately 100 soles per person. These are not part of our service.
We sincerely apologize if at any moment the communication from our guide was not clear or if you felt unsupported, especially while dealing with altitude discomfort. This is not the experience we aim to provide, and we will address this internally.
Regarding the situation you mentioned during transportation, we take this matter seriously and will review it with our team.
We truly appreciate your feedback, as it helps us improve, and we regret that your experience did not reflect the quality we strive to offer.

We’re glad to hear that you still had a great time despite the challenging weather conditions. The Andes can sometimes surprise us with snow or sudden weather changes, but it’s wonderful to know that the adventure to Rainbow Mountain was still enjoyable for you.

It was everything promised! Picked up at our Hotel at 4AM by car service and dropped off to a comfortable 15 passenger bus and we were off! Breakfast first then the Mountain! The ATV’s were easy to operate and the best way to get up there. Then we stopped for lunch and were back by 4PM. ANGIE was our guide and spoke both English and Spanish. She takes people up to Rainbow Mountain every day and she was amazing! This was a great experience!
Response from Host, Mar 2026

Everything went very well from start to finish. Daniel, our guide, and Jorge, our driver, were excellent. From the very beginning, I felt safe and well taken care of. It’s important to be patient during pickup time since they collect other travelers as well, but the process was organized and smooth.
I highly recommend dressing warmly, especially during the rainy and cold season. In our case, it even snowed. The altitude didn’t affect me, but Daniel and his team were always attentive, checking in to make sure everyone was feeling okay and explaining clearly how to handle the ATVs.
The food was delicious—I honestly ate more than expected because everything tasted so good. The transportation was comfortable, and since the trip to and from the mountain is done by van, you can leave extra belongings there. Bringing a small pillow or blanket makes the ride even more comfortable.
I’m very grateful for the entire experience and strongly encourage supporting the local team with a tip. I highly recommend this tour—the ATVs make the experience much easier and allow you to fully enjoy Rainbow Mountain.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review.
We’re truly happy to hear that everything went smoothly from start to finish and that you felt safe and well taken care of throughout the experience. Daniel and Jorge will be very proud to know their professionalism, care, and dedication made such a positive impression. Ensuring everyone feels comfortable, informed, and supported—especially at high altitude—is always our top priority.
We also appreciate you sharing such helpful tips for future travelers, from dressing warmly during the cold and rainy season to bringing a small pillow or blanket for extra comfort during the van ride. It’s great to hear that the ATV instructions were clear, the transportation comfortable, and that you enjoyed the food so much — that always makes the adventure even better!
Thank you as well for encouraging support for our local team; it truly means a lot and helps us continue providing authentic and high-quality experiences. We’re honored by your recommendation and delighted that the ATVs helped you fully enjoy Rainbow Mountain.
We hope to welcome you back again for another unforgettable adventure in Peru! ⛰️✨

Our guide spoke little English. Hard to communicate. They told us pickup at 3:30 and didn’t show till 4:20. With no phone call. Description was misleading. Thought we were riding atvs and motorcycles. Only rode atvs. It was foggy and barely saw the mountain (not your fault). Back tire was loose and the had to stop 4 times to check the noise. At lunch they tightened the tire and it was ok.
All in all a fun tour but the details made it a little stressful.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback. We truly appreciate it, as it helps us improve our service.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with the delayed pickup and the lack of communication during that time. We understand how stressful this can be, especially early in the morning, and this is certainly not the standard we aim to provide. We will reinforce our coordination and communication protocols to avoid this situation in the future.
We’re also sorry to hear that the language barrier with the guide made communication difficult. Clear explanations are essential for a good experience, and we take this feedback very seriously to ensure better English-speaking support going forward.
Regarding the activity description, we apologize for the confusion. Your comment helps us recognize the need to make our tour descriptions clearer and more precise to avoid misunderstandings about the vehicles used.
Thank you as well for pointing out the mechanical issue with the ATV. While we’re glad it was fully resolved at lunch and that safety checks were carried out, we understand that the repeated stops affected your experience. Safety is our top priority, and we will strengthen our pre-tour equipment inspections.
Lastly, while weather conditions like fog are beyond our control, we understand the disappointment of limited visibility and appreciate your understanding in that regard.
We truly regret the aspects that did not meet your expectations and thank you again for your valuable feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a much smoother and more enjoyable experience in the future.

It is 3.5 hours to get from Cusco to Rainbow mountain parking lot.
On the way there you stop at a buffet for breakfast - it was very good food ... hot drinks included but cold drinks (including water) on your own. Upon arrival at the Mountain, you get an overview of the ATVs for about 10 minutes, then drive up the path to the mountain (about 20 minutes) ... then about 20-30 minutes on the mountain (you can walk up an additional 200 meters to the peek but not required to see Rainbow mountain views.
On our visit day, there was snow on the ground so you must be aware that you may not get to see the vibrant colors ...
Altitude is over 16K feet so be prepared for some huffing and puffing even for the short distance. We had finished the 4-day Machu Picchu trek the day before, so we were acclimated. It is about 15 minutes down the hill on the ATVs and then reverse on the shuttle ... stopping for a great lunch at the same buffet location.
Bottom Line: You must be prepared for alot of driving (we slept because of finishing the trek the previous day). You meet at 0300 for departure. Food was great. Sights were subdued because of the snow. temps were amazingly warm.

Be prepared for a long day. Also, ensure you travel knowing the weather can change rapidly so multiple layers and rain gear may be necessary. I would only do this trip after one to two days of acclimation in Cusco. The guides did a great job shuttling us to each step of this adventure because the changes between bus, ATV, motorbike and bike and be complicated and quick.

What a wonderful day! Our guide Luis was superb. So friendly and helpful. He was very patient as I slowly trailed behind the group and he kindly continued to offer encouragement; a great choice for my solo day trip! I’d recommend this ATV tour to anyone. Bring soles for the bathroom and other goodies. I’d highly recommend the coca candies to help with the altitude.

He’s an excellent guide, and your kind words about his friendliness, patience, and encouragement will mean a lot to him. We’re especially happy to know you felt comfortable and supported while traveling solo — that’s exactly the experience we aim to provide.
Thank you as well for the helpful tips for future travelers about bringing soles and coca candies to better handle the altitude. Your recommendation truly helps others prepare and enjoy the tour even more.

Thank you so much for sharing this incredible story! 🌈🏍️
It truly made our day to read about you and Larry — two lifelong friends taking on such a memorable adventure together. We completely understand the initial apprehension, and we’re especially happy to hear that Edgar and Edwin made you feel safe, confident, and well cared for every step of the way. They are fantastic guides, and your kind words about their patience, teaching, and positive attitude mean a lot to our whole team.
We’re glad you enjoyed the full experience: the ATV ride up the mountain, the motorcycle ride closer to Rainbow Mountain, the short and manageable walk to the viewpoint, and the beautiful scenery along the way — from alpacas grazing in the fields to the additional scenic stop on the return route. It’s also great to know the breakfast, lunch, and comfortable transportation from Cusco helped make the long day more enjoyable.
Calling this a “once in a lifetime experience” truly honors us. Thank you for your recommendation and for trusting us with such a special adventure. We hope your memories of Rainbow Mountain — and the fun you had together — stay with you forever. Wishing you many more adventures ahead! ✨

Incredible experience. Picked up early morning for a 2 hour bus ride but the bus was comfortable and left alone to try get some sleep/relax, breakfast wasn’t great but that was fine. Next stop was a quick bus ride to get to the ATV station, this was unbelievable, maybe 20-30 mins before getting to a point to start the hike, views where unbelievable and great feeling getting to the top, could definitely feel the altitude and had to take it slow at times but got there, guides where never far away should you need them and they where happy to take pics etc. Return was the same, lunch was provided at the same venue as breakfast, again not the best but definitely didn’t affect the day and would 100% recommend the trip.

A lot of driving, and I think we expected more ATV time on the way up to rainbow mountain, but they made up for it on the way down as we went to the glacier which included some off roading. Edgar was a great guide!

hank you so much for sharing your experience! We truly appreciate your honesty.
– I’m glad you enjoyed the adventure, especially the ATV ride and the chance to explore off-road going down the mountain.
– I understand your expectation was more ATV time going up. We try to balance between time riding, hiking, and relaxing at viewpoints — but we see now that some guests prefer more ATV time on the ascent.
– Edgar is always delighted to know that his guidance made a difference for you.
We’ll take your comments on board to improve: perhaps adjust how we allocate time so future guests get more ATV time up, or clarify this aspect in advance so expectations match the reality.
Thanks again for trusting us, and for recommending the experience. We would love to welcome you back and give you an even more awesome trip next time!
