Despite a hot day, visiting Petra is an amazing experience. Guide was knowledgeable and driver was excellent with a 1-month old vehicle. Driver also stopped and bought us the famous Jordanian dessert of cheese and honey.

An unique experience to visit Petra. A very old and very well preserved historical place. Petra was a very important city of the famous Silk Road. One may have a precise idea how the people leave and how the habitants manage the caravanas on the way to China. It is important to bring water and to be prepared to walk 2.5 miles - both ways. It is worthwhile.

Private Tour: Petra and Little Petra Day Trip from Aqaba -- Avoid This Tour

It’s a private tour “Petra and Little Petra Day Trip from Aqaba, with Aqaba Port Transfer”, booked directly with Viator, and serviced by the local tour operator “Zaid Tours and Travel”. The tour started ok. The young driver, Ahmad Nazzai, met our party of four, two couples, at the port, and transported us in a Hyundai van to Petra. But he didn’t know the tour also included the tour Little Petra, and horse rides before “Siq”, the gorge into Petra. He called his office and confirmed. We met an older tour guide, also named Ahmad, at the ticketing area for Petra, and then went to the horse riding platform and got on 3 small horses; one person didn’t want to ride. There’s no formal arrangement between Zaid Tours and horse-boys (men). One horse-boy demanded $25 for tip from the wife of one couple, and wouldn’t slow down when he didn’t hear the tip agreement. It’s a dangerous ride for her. Two other horse-boys were more friendly. The tour guide indicated that there would be horse rides when we came back from Petra, but there was no such arrangement. The tour guide was pretty bad, just walked a good distance ahead of us, didn’t care that we were taking pictures of this amazing gorge, and didn’t provide much information about the artifacts that guides of other tour groups were providing. At the end of the gorge, we saw the famous temple facade, and took many pictures. It’s quite hot. The guide didn’t show much interest of going beyond, and so we let him go. We walked back without realizing it’s going uphill and the sun directly overhead. It’s probably better to ride an electric golf cart, $25 per person. We went back to the pre-arranged area and texted the driver for our next stop, Little Petra. We were surprised to find out that we wouldn’t have a tour guide for Little Petra, and the driver volunteered to step in as the guide. But things went bad to worst. The local hustlers demanded about $40 per person for guiding and wouldn’t allow the driver to accompany us. We didn’t feel safe to go with those hustlers and decided to skip Little Petra and just returned to Aqaba. The driver called his office for help and then told us that his office couldn’t help. We were quite disappointed about this entire tour. The driver was however quite pleasant and we tipped him at the port and wish him Happy Ramadan. Contacted Viator the next day and reported the incident at Little Petra, but only received only that “we understand your fear of safety and disappointment”, and nothing else.

So sorry to hear that some local hustlers bothered you at Little Petra, our driver had already warned you to be careful; since unfortunately this happens in many tourists’ spots in the world, and it is not in anyone’s control. However, we do care about your safety as it is our priority, and be rest assured there is nothing these boys can do to you or harm you. Jordan is a safe country and our driver was there to assist you in destination directly, as he represents the office and we are not present directly. Please note our office is in charge of the tour driver and guide for the classic Petra visit, Little Petra is an additional visit to the tour and no guide is mentioned under tour inclusions at Little Petra. We do not do any arrangements with the horse boys at Petra, since they are independent, and since tips are not under our contracted services of the tour. The horse ride till before the Siq is included in Petra ticket entrance, but tips (gratuities) not included. We understand your disappointment from the conduct of the locals and horse boys, that we can inform Petra Municipality about, in order to have more control on them directly, as not our responsibility as tour service providers. Thank you once again for your comments for improvement purposes in Petra!

The power of Petra

Worth the terrifying drive on unfinished roads in the fog to see such a wonderful place. The driver was very reluctant to take us to Little Petra as well but we insisted and it was really worth it. No one else was there and it’s much more accessible than Petra. We skipped lunch to make time for it (the schedule seems unnecessarily tight). Everything worked well and the driver was at the port on time to pick us up. The guide was ok and warmed up as we went on. The one thing to be aware of is the drive - the car is basic and the route is long and scary in bad weather.

Long drive but worth the visit

A very long drive from the cruise port but worth it. The buffet lunch was horrible and was not included in the tour. We received an additional tour of Downtown Jordan by our driver who provided us with the MOST delicious Kanafeh we've ever had! Its all we could think about after our tour and our trip!! What a treat

Petra was on our bucket list and worth the 10 year wait. Our driver was just like a guide. He was wonderful andpersonable and on our way back he had car troubles. It was a new Mercedes’ so who knows what went wrong. However his first concern was us and he was like a magician getting a friend of his family to taxi us to the port on time where his dad met us took us first for special treats and then to our ships doorstep. Onasis we love you!

Our driver picked us up by the ship as arranged. Lovely comfortable, air conditioned car and an excellent driver. Very friendly and got us to Wadi Rum and Petra in good time The driver got our tickets for us and then handed us over to the private guide in Petra The guide was again excellent and we had a wonderful and informative tour of Petra Our driver was waiting for us when we returned and quickly got us to the airport as arranged. The driver was courteous and very professional and we would give the whole experience 5* Would definitely recommend this tour especially if you are short of time as we did it all and didn’t feel rushed or missed out. This was the VIP experience we hoped for and got. Excellent all round highly recommended

The driver was good, the guide mediocre and the travel agency was lousy. They issued conflicting messages and lied about why the driver was late. The price charged was double what it would have cost if I had done it on site. This reflects badly on Viator and Trip Advisor.

A nice day in Wadi Musa Petra. Note that when you prebook the arrangement, you only pay for a regular guide up to a certain point witin the area. Then the guide will offer you extended tours for a extra charge. The guide will explain different routes within Petra. Unfortunately I didnt ask how much it would be in advance. That came as a chock afterwards, another 50 JOD! On top of that you should be aware of that the guide will present you to different salesmen witin the area for buying souvenirs often handmade of poor women that can cost you even more. Its almost that they expect you to take the horse carriage through the Sic on your way back, which leaves you with another 20 JOD to pay and another 10 JOD to tip the guide. Still it was the most awesome place to be at and you could feel the history wings over the place. Dont forget to drink plenty of water. It is really hot was there in the beginning of aug.

Prive toer Patra. De 2uur latere aankomst van het cruiseschip in Aqaba Jordanie kon gemakkelijk met een link rechtstreek doorgegeven worden aan de touroperator Zaid Tours. Deze reageerde hier vrij snel op dat het geen probleem was. We werden met de privetour naar Petra op de nieuwe tijd van de pier van de Cruisterminal opgepikt. De chauffeur sprak perfect Engels en vertelde veel interessante informatie over het land. In Petra kregen we een mobiele telefoon met zijn voorkeurnummer. Op deze manier was het gemakkelijk om te melden dat we terug waren op het afgesproken punt en tijdstip. Ook de gids in Petra wist veel over het werelderfgoed te vertellen. Op de terug weg naar de cruisehaven werd als extraatje een korte tour door de nieuwe wijk van Aqaba en langs het paleis gemaakt. Voor ons was het een hele geslaagde dag!
