Top Toyama Prefecture How to Get Around in 2026

This tour begins at Kaiwomaru Park, home to the preserved tall ship Kaiwomaru, known as the 'Lady of the Sea,' with a waterfront promenade set against the backdrop of the Japan Alps. Next, visit Shinminato Kitokito Market to sample fresh Toyama Bay seafood such as white shrimp, firefly squid, and yellowtail. Continue to Shinminato Ohashi Bridge, one of the country's longest cable-stayed bridges, and the Shinminato Uchikawa canal district, often called the 'Venice of Japan.' The public-transport version stays within this Shinminato port cluster, spanning about 4.6km end to end. The private-vehicle version adds a fifth stop: Amaharashi Coast, about 6km further west, where the pine-topped Onnaiwa islet sits offshore against the snow-capped Tateyama mountains—a celebrated view easily reached by private car, but too far to include comfortably in the public-transport route.
