VIP visit to Orangutans

The real gold of this tour is the orangutan. The tour guide Jackie made us feel like a VIP compared to those who went without a tour guide or even those with other tour guides. He took us away from the crowds, gave us exclusive experience because of his knowledge. The Georgetown tour was okay but we were quite tired from travel and it’s very busy, felt a little rushed on this section of the tour.

Mr Joey was a fantastic driver - arrived on time, clean car, very hospitable to show us around beautiful Penang in particular the Kek Lok Si Temple followed by a lovely local lunch at a local hawker stall. En route home we visited the local Batik Factory - the management team showing exactly how they are made by hand. We booked this tour after doing a similar back of a bike experience in Saigon. It did not disappoint! Jacky and Din were absolutely fantastic. Super experienced riders who took us to local spots and made sure we got to enjoy food like a Penang local. Highly recommend, especially for a first night in Penang/George Town, to try the local cuisine.

Jeff was our driver/guide for the day and he was excellent - he picked us up promptly and we asked to deviate from the standard tour and see some specific sights, which was no problem - we visited the Goddess of Mercy temple, a couple of local villages, Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang Hill, and ended with a walk around the Armenian Street area of Georgetown. Jeff accompanied us as we walked around, and was able to tell us all about the things we were seeing and the buildings we were walking in/through - his knowledge was amazing1 Highly recommend this trip - it can be varied, from the calmness in the hills to the hustle and bustle of Georgetown - and the itinerary can be flexible if required. If you get Jeff as your guide you will definitely get lots of valuable insights and information.

The boat departure point for the island is Bukit Merah Laketown Resort, which was about an hour's drive away from Georgetown (from being picked up at 8am). The boat runs on a schedule so we did have to wait about half an hour once we arrived at the departure point, but that time was easily filled by going into the small visitor centre they have there. The boat ride is only a few minutes and you get about an hour on the island itself. A resident warden/guide took us around, telling us stories about the Orang-utans and the conservation work. Our guide Ronnie also accompanied us, he tried to entice the animals nearer with fruit bribes! - he is an experienced guide and knows the individual Orang-utans and their personalities. This was an amazing trip, well worth doing. Ronnie in particular was a great guide, we learnt a lot from him during the trip about Penang and Malaysia in general, not just about the Orang-utans. Highly recommended. Also recommend that you take some mosquito/insect spray with you!

Do yourself a HUGE favor- book it!!

Incredible experience! You will try many local dishes that are nothing short of amazing and that you most likely wouldn’t have tried otherwise on your own. We travel quite a bit and do food tours all over the world - this easily ranks in the top two. Our guide Sandy was beyond amazing. It was my husbands birthday and she made it so awesome - had him experience a traditional Chinese birthday, everyone sang to him and he got a piece of Duran (local fruit (yuck)) cake.

This was such a fun activity. We went at the pace the group wanted. Excellent transport to and from the venue (with a very kind detour, suggested by Henry our driver so some of the group got to visit another attraction). They are the cutest couple running this cooking class. You start the day off in the market meeting some amazing shop owners, have breakfast and then will Make your way to the cooking class where you will learn to make some delicious Chinese Malay dishes. Mrs.Amy is so cute. I loved learning the history of the people and making the dishes. Definitely worth it.
