This tour is a great way to see the traditional side of the Dominican Republic. Many tourists only see the resort side of the country, but this tour shows the country's history and culture. Start your day in Higüey, one of the most popular cities in the country. There you will visit the Basilica and the Dominican Market, where you can get to better understand Dominican culture and society. After lunch it's time to visit Anamuya River, where you will have time to swim, enjoy nature and even slide on a 100 foot natural slide into the river.

Immerse yourself in Dominican culture and nature on this half-day guided tour from Punta Cana. This convenient tour combines several different attractions and activities with transfers and food.
Your day starts with pickup from your Punta Cana hotel. Travel to Higuey by air-conditioned vehicle. At your first stop, go horseback riding at a ranch. You'll also visit the Basilica of Higuey and browse the local market.
At the Anamuya River, you can swim, play on the natural water slide, and savor a lunch of typical Dominican fare. Afterwards, learn about the coffee, cocoa, and tobacco industries at a local house and factory, and stop at an art school.
The last stop of the tour will be at Macao Beach, where you can relax on the sand, or enjoy a swim in the ocean, before getting dropped off at your hotel.

Our tour guide Wester is amazing! He goes above and beyond giving us the best experience we could have. He even bought us mangoes to keep when we are asking for one. Horse back riding is a plus to me. He makes sure somebody stays with me and guiding the horse so I would feel comfortable and have the best experience. Market tour is good too. I’ve learned a lot of local spices and fruits. I highly recommend him

The experience was wonderful. We could not have asked for a better guide than Teo. Teo really took care of us. He explained were we were going beforehand and what we would see. He answered all questions and made sure that everyone was taken care of and happy.

Robinson was our guide and he was friendly and informative and well as great to guarantee safety. We went with our 2 teens and 9 year old, he catered to the youngest interest and ensured we all saw and experienced everything. Our driver Sandy helped with safety and directions and got us everywhere in perfect time. The tour was full packed and had tons of bits and pieces of the DR, church, market, cigars, coffee, chocolate and the beautiful beach. Highly recommend!!

This was truly a 10/10 excursion. Our guide made us feel well taken care of and was very actively keeping track of everyone. He also seemed to have good relationships with a few of our police escorts through the open market areas, which was a great reassurance to have. Our guide was very friendly, had a great sense of humor, and kept things lively through the entire trip. I can confidently say this was a solid experience for the price. Even the food provided was a fantastic break from the resort dinners. The horseback riding was such a great time, the stops for cocoa and cigars were great, and the beach offered fantastic backdrops for photos. I am incredibly pleased with this excursions and highly recommend it, especially to those staying on a resort.

Althought slightly longer then advertised is a whistle stop tour of Dominican Republic treasures outside of the resort setting.
Teo was our guide and provided an informative narrative with interesting and at times funny tid bits.
Would definitely advise anyone to take this as it's amazing (and get Teo as your guide as it will be even better)

It was more that’s just a tour. We were introduced to what felt like family. Everywhere we went we were taken good care of. I loved that our guide called the seven of us on the tour “FAMILY”. Robinson and Sandy, our tour guides, are top notch! This is definitely not a half day trip but that was okay with us as we wanted to see all the culture. I will say that this tour did stop at some of the same places with other companies, so just keep that in mind if that’s not what you’re looking for. Either way, it was great to see the authentic Dominican culture, horseback riding, food, and cigar rolling was included in our price.

We had a wonderful time. The trip says 5 hours but it took 8.5. Franklin and Sandy were both great - Franklin knows a lot about his country. The horseback riding was awkward and we probably didn’t need the drive to the beach. But everything was just great. The lunch was unexpectedly good. And we learned so much about the Dominican Republic. A great diversion during a beach vacation.

Highly recommend this tour! Wester was an incredible guide and drove us around so many spots in DR. First we went horseback riding, then to a historic catholic church, then we visited a local market to get souvenirs, fruits and spices, next we had lunch in the mountains, visited a family that harvests cocoa and coffee, visited a cigar factory and rolled our own cigars, and ended at Macao beach. All the stops were 20-30 minutes which personally was great to fit so much in and not sit bored at one particular place. The water at Macao beach is so clear and blue, the food at the restaurant was lovely, and we had an air conditioned vehicle between stops which can't be beat!

We took the Half Day Dominican Republic Cultural Tour and had an amazing experience. Ask for Tao, he’s incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and made us feel safe the entire time. We visited a local market, did a bit of horseback riding, enjoyed great food, and toured an authentic Dominican home and farm. We bought cocoa powder and spices and explored local shops. The trip took us into the mountains and then down to a beautiful beach. It was a fun, eye-opening day and a great way to see the real Dominican Republic beyond the resort. Highly recommend!

This experience was so fun! Sandy, the “limo” driver handled everything well and was timely. Traffic is chaotic, but we felt like he had a handle on things & we were safe. Franklin, our guide, was awesome! He was very knowledgeable, cracked jokes, and we felt like we could trust him. The tour was amazing. From the horses, to the Basilica, to the market, to lunch on the river, to the agriculture, to Macao - I felt like we fit a whole day into half a day. The culture in the DR is so rich, and it’s nice to leave the resort to learn about it all. 10/10 would recommend!!

The tour was great but I have to be honest,the market wasn't my favorite. Our tour operator was Wester Martinez and he was a sweetie and really knowledgeable about his country.

The experience was truly immersed in the culture of the Dominican Republic. We went off the beaten path and stayed there where we enjoyed great sites, food and people. However, it was a FULL day (not half) and you may want to bring snacks and hand sanitizer.

The cultural tour was very fun and my family enjoyed it. We were a group of 17 people and Sandy and Robinson were so fun and friendly. They both ensured we were taken care of. There is a good bit of walking on the tour but there’s plenty of space and areas to sit and stop if needed. They provided cold waters and made sure we were good in the heat. The only thing we didn’t love was the market because it was very hot and didn’t smell the best. We skipped the cigar factory because we were ready to go to the beach and they accommodated us. Shout out to Sandy and Robinson!

We had such an amazing experience on this tour! Everything was so well organized, and we got to truly experience the local culture, history, and lifestyle, not just the typical tourist spots.
A huge shoutout to our tour guide, TEO, who made the entire trip unforgettable. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing his culture with us. You can really tell he loves what he does, and it made the experience so much more meaningful.

Teo was a friendly guide, and the overall tour was a brief but good experience of Dominican culture. However, the tour is listed as approximately 5 hours but went for 8 hours. Whilst this is “more than bargained for”, I had planned for a 5 hour tour. The listing should be updated.
