From there, you’ll head out on safari across the vast outback plains, before wrapping up with a traditional pioneer ‘smoko’ under the gum trees at Captain Starlight’s Camp.

The Thomson River floodplains can look like empty country until someone explains how outback life depends on them. A heritage rail motor carries you across the river and plains, while the driver-guide shares stories of the railway and life in western Queensland. Billy tea (tea brewed in a metal tin) and a smoko (the Australian term for a snack break) are provided, along with coffee.
