While it’s free to visit the Swakopmund Jetty, many travelers choose to visit as part of a guided tour. Pass by the jetty on a historical tour of Swakopmund, which costs around US$40 per person, or join a full-day tour of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, starting at US$175.

Take a walk to the end of the Swakopmund Jetty for some of the best views of the town and the ocean—you might even spot dolphins swimming in the bay. The jetty is also a popular spot for fishing and has a restaurant, the Jetty 1905 Restaurant, which overlooks the ocean.

Yes, the Swakopmund Jetty is a great place to watch the sunset. The jetty faces westward and juts out into the Atlantic Ocean, offering unobstructed ocean views from the end. Visiting later in the day usually provides the clearest views of the town, too; mornings are often misty.

You can walk to the end of the jetty in less than 10 minutes, but it’s worth lingering to enjoy the views, especially at sunset. To make the most of your visit, pick up a sweet treat along the way from the donut bar at the start of the pier.

The Swakopmund Jetty is a short walk from the town, so it’s easy to combine with a walking tour. After visiting the pier, stroll the beachfront promenade to the lighthouse (another popular landmark), visit the Swakopmund Museum and the local craft market, then stop for a swim at the public beach.
