That's what home tastes like here. I live in Shanghai, and I'd love to have you in my kitchen to cook a few of the dishes we make most often. None of them are difficult, and none of them are fussy, they're simply what's on the table in millions of Chinese homes every night. I'll walk you through the cutting, the seasoning, and the timing, and tell you the stories behind each dish along the way. Before we start, we'll take a relaxed stroll through a nearby wet market, seasonal produce, unhurried vendors, and a glimpse of daily life you won't find at any landmark. Afterwards, I'll send you a PDF of the recipes, so you can make these dishes again in your own kitchen wherever you are. One meal is enough to get to know Chinese food and each other. Most Shanghai food experiences are built around a chef, a studio, or a script. These are built around a family. +1 Chopsticks is China's first home dining marketplace — we personally curate local host families and connect them with international travelers who want more than another restaurant meal. The food is seasonal and made from scratch. The conversation is genuine. And the home you're sitting in is exactly that — someone's actual home, not a staged set. No two dinners are the same because no two families are the same. The hosts each bring something different to the table. A Jiading Ayi who has been welcoming international guests since 2016 and grows her own vegetables in a backyard garden. A Guizhou-born host who spent a decade in the US and bridges both cultures fluently. A Shanghai family who will teach you to fold dumplings before you sit down to eat.

Immerse yourself in Chinese culture with vegan cooking, a tailored Mandarin lesson, and a market walk, all while enjoying hands-on activities and authentic meals that connect language, cuisine, and tradition for a truly unique experience.
