Itineraries for Your Trip to Nassau
3 Days in Nassau for First Timers
The first time I flew to the Bahamas was to visit Atlantis Paradise Island and check out its impressive waterpark. We left the resort for a day and took a tour of Nassau, and I loved hiking up the Queen's Staircase and enjoying a fresh coconut from a stand at the top, and then visiting the Straw Market to shop for souvenirs.
When you have three days in Nassau, you can take some time to dive deep into the food and culture at a slower pace. You'll also have the opportunity to get out on the water to visit some nearby small islands and maybe even swim with some friendly pigs.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a rum cake factory tour.
Nassau summers can get hot, but the rest of the year is more temperate, although it's always humid.
There's so much you can see on foot in downtown Nassau, and a walking tour is a great way to start your visit. On a walking tour, you'll hit landmarks like Queen’s Staircase, Fort Fincastle, and the pink Government House and perhaps enjoy tasting local chocolate and wine.
Get to see the beauty of the Bahamas on a sunset dinner cruise that takes you out of Nassau Harbor and past the Atlantis aboard a catamaran. Such cruises might feature a Bahamian buffet dinner with barbecue ribs, lemon pepper chicken, and traditional rum punch.
Now that you've had time to explore Nassau, take advantage of its proximity to many small islands by booking a powerboat excursion. Set out for Allen's Cay to see the massive iguanas and continue to Ship Channel Cay to snorkel in the clear waters offshore.
Once you've returned to Nassau, this food tour is a great way to taste authentic local dishes. You'll learn the history of the Bahamas as you travel around town on a bus, with stops at a rum cake factory, ancient battle forts, and dining spots.
Now that you have the lay of the land, an ATV city tour will let you explore a bit more. Your guide can customize the stops you want to see, and you'll sample conch and rum cake throughout the tour.
Enjoy your last day in Nassau doing something you've probably never done before—swimming with pigs. You'll set out for Atholl Island, where you'll get in the water with the world-famous swimming pigs and enjoy rum drinks with your feet in the sand. It's the perfect way to end your island visit.
