Itineraries for Your Trip to Killarney
3 Days in Killarney for First Timers
Whether it's the fog lifting off one of the lakes or the music lilting from open windows of a local pub, Killarney feels mystical whenever I visit. I try to have plenty of time to explore the town on foot and spend at least a full day in Killarney National Park, checking out the castle ruins and my favorite, the Torc Waterfall. With three days in Killarney, you'll have time for both, plus leisurely afternoons to drive the Ring of Kerry or visit the Ladies View. This 3-day Killarney itinerary for first-timers covers many of the top activities in Killarney, allowing time for pub dinners and distillery tours.
The temps are moderate year-round in Killarney, with a high chance of rain.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a hike in Killarney National Park.
On your first day in Killarney, it's a good idea to get the lay of the land, whether you explore on foot or head out on a hop-on hop-off bus that takes you to all the top spots while saving your stamina.
Killarney is known for its welcoming locals and lively pubs. If you want to learn a bit about the whiskey-making process, head to Killarney Brewing and Distilling Co. just outside town, where you can take a tour and then enjoy food and some drinks at the on-site restaurant.
One of the main draws of a visit to Killarney is a stop at Killarney National Park. There's plenty to do there, whether you go for a hike, take a ride in a horse-drawn jaunting car, or traverse the lakes on a boat to take in the spectacular views.
Cross your fingers for a bit of sun in the afternoon, and head out to explore nearby spots, such as Blarney Castle and the Gap of Dunloe. If you're keen on memorializing the landscapes on film, a photography tour is the way to go.
On your final day in Killarney, stop by those must-visit spots you haven't had a chance to check out. A private tour is the best way to maximize your time in County Kerry, as you can customize your itinerary and your guide will share the area's history along the way.
If you haven't stopped at Torc Waterfall, Muckross House and Gardens, and Ross Castle, now's your chance. You can visit on your own to explore at your own pace, or book a guided hike to leave the navigating to an expert. You'll have gorgeous views of Killarney along the way.
