The Gap of Dunloe Tour is a must do for visitors to Killarney. The ‘Adventure’ begins daily from our head office at O’Connor’s Pub, 7 High St., Killarney at 10:00am for check in. We can also collect clients from their accommodation in the Killarney area. Your journey begins with a bus trip to Kate Kearney’s Cottage or Ross Castle (recommended starting point for walkers as it allows more time). From here visitors make the 7 mile walk (please allow 2.5 to 3 hours for the walk). For those who do not wish to walk Jaunting cart’s are also available (at extra cost of €25 per person) to take the clients through the natural unspoilt beauty of the Black Valley, a walker’s paradise. Upon reaching Lord Brandon’s Cottage, there will be time to enjoy refreshments (not included) at the Cafe, before taking your boat trip through the Lakes of Killarney to Ross Castle where your bus will be waiting to take you back to Killarney. As noted, this tour can also be done in reverse.

Lovely day on the lakes...

Lovely day on the lakes and rivers. We saw a pair of eagles and a juvenile. It was quite hot so we opted for the horse and cart instead of the 6 mile walk. Our boat guide was very knowledgeable and made sure we were well taken care of. The cart driver was local and shared lots of information. Brilliant day all around.

Good but could be improved

Beautiful scenery. Nice hike and boat ride. My recommendation is that they provide more information to people before they commit so that they know how long the hike will be. Also, a printed map of the route with detailed instructions would help. We were concerned that we were lost for a little bit. There is one point on the route in which you come to a T. Explicit direction for that point would be good. A printout should also include the times that we need to be at certain points.

The lake is the best way to see the park

Walking the Gap of Dunloe was great, but the real treat was the boat ride through all 3 lakes. Captain Rory was a friendly skipper and an excellent tour guide. Highly recommend.

Gorgeous area, stunning views but could easily do on your own

Though the Gap of Dunloe and the boat ride through the lakes are wonderful, the Gap of Dunloe is beyond words beautiful, the tour company itself doesn’t do much for you. They bring to Kathy’s Cottage, maybe 20 minute drive, they pair you with a jaunty cart driver and you don’t see them again until they pick you at Ross castle after the boat ride. And as far as that’s concerned, we waited for over 30 minutes for the coach to pick us up. If we had known it was going to be that long, we would have visited the castle instead of just hanging in the parking lot. You have to pay for the horse ride separately, having priced out the boat ride afterwards, I think you could do the whole thing on your own cheaper.
