Perfect for couples, families, or friends. This hidden oasis offers a cultural escape right in Tama-city, Tokyo — far from the city’s crowds, yet easily accessible. It is hosted by two welcoming Japanses sisters, who inherited the tea house and its traditions from their grandmother. Together, your hosts will offer an intimate, warm introduction to the Japanese tea ceremony (Chado = the Way of Tea) in a heritage setting. Perfect for beginners, your hosts will guide you through the history, philosophy, and etiquette of the Japanese tea ceremony in an accessible, friendly way. You’ll savor seasonal Japanese sweets, watch a tea-making demonstration. After the demonstration, the experience continues with a freshly made seasonal Japanese lunch. After the meal, you will try making your own bowl of tea by whisking matcha — taking turns among the group to prepare a bowl of tea for each other and savoring the tea made especially for you.

Step into the world of Kabuki through this hands-on Kumadori makeup experience in Kichijoji, Tokyo. Kumadori is the bold red makeup style used in traditional Kabuki theater to portray heroic characters and powerful emotions through dramatic lines and color. During the experience, you’ll learn the meaning behind the designs and recreate the iconic red “Shibaraku” Kumadori look yourself, step by step. Unlike a typical makeover, this is a fully interactive cultural experience where you become part of the performance tradition. Take photos freely during the session — your transformed look will definitely turn heads on social media. To finish, you’ll create your own “Kumadori Face Print” by pressing the makeup onto a traditional Japanese hand towel, inspired by the authentic Kabuki art of Oshiguma. It’s a one-of-a-kind souvenir you can only make here. A fun, immersive, and unforgettable way to experience a different side of Japanese culture beyond the usual tourist spots.

Only 1 train ride from Shinjuku! You can enjoy kimono as a preview of sightseeing in Tokyo. If you come early, you can explore the west side of Tokyo (for example, Takahata-fudouson Kongoji Temple, Mt. Takao, etc.) after this lesson. All the kimonos in my collection were hand-picked and purchased by me. Some items were donated by friends, and they all have history and weren’t mass-produced. Not all but many kimonos are made of silk. I want you to feel the texture of Japanese silk. This cultural experience will take place at my house in a traditional tatami room. And we also have tea with Japan sweets. Options : Professional photography during the lesson. Includes portfolio shoot and online raw data for up to 10 pictures per person plus up to 20 snapshots taken during the lesson.
