Urauchi River (Urauchi-gawa) Tours and Tickets

Guided cruises are a great way to learn more about the Urauchi River’s flora and fauna, but commentary is typically only in Japanese. English pamphlets are available.

If you decide to include the waterfall trek in your excursion, sturdy and waterproof shoes are recommended. The path can be rocky, slippery, and muddy.

Cruises depart frequently throughout the day and reservations are not required. Simply check the latest timetable online and show up about 10 minutes ahead of departure.

Though chances of spotting the nocturnal Iriomote Cat are slim, this feline species—endemic to the island—has been known to catch fish along the riverbank, so keep an eye out.

If you prefer to forego the guided tour, kayak and canoe rentals are available. Choose from 1-hour, multi-hour, or full-day options and paddle your own way down the river.
