Top Dakhla Day Trips

This is a relaxed experience, perfect for both nature lovers and families willing to discover the beautiful bay of Dakhla together with our resident Marine Biologist. The itinerary will bring you to the famed White Dune and to one of Dakhla's "secret spots", on the shore opposite to the White Dune itself. Both belong to the larger system of the bay of Dakhla, which is part of the RAMSAR international network for the protection of wetlands. Depending on tides, you will have plenty of time to gently stroll on these two long beaches searching for shells, fiddler crabs, marks left by rays, and (with a bit of luck) for one of the region's "living fossils" - come ready to walk barefoot on the sand! The area is home (or an important stop-over) for resident and migratory birds, such as Flamingos, Herons, Egrets, Spoonbills, Gulls and Terns. Desert fauna and flora are also flourishing just around these two spots, including plants of traditional importance and unbelievable parasitic flowers.

Your guide/driver will help you discover Dakhla and its marvellous natural sites and enjoy an extraordinary experience. The area around Dakhla is full of jewels, each more beautiful than the last. Situated between a large turquoise lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean, but also bordered by the desert, Dakhla is one of the most exceptional places in the world. Waves, wind, traditions, a micro-climate... the conditions are right for an enchanted getaway.

Imlili's excursion to the Moroccan desert offers a breathtaking experience of arid landscapes, rolling sand dunes and fascinating local cultures. The itineraries vary, but often you will leave for the Dakhla desert which hides treasures of biodiversity, such as the imlili pools full of small fish, along the way you will have the opportunity to meet camels, it will be an opportunity to discover the richness of the Moroccan Sahrawi nomadic culture. Leaving the desert you go to the wild beach of Puerto Rico where you can swim, you will go to the tropic of cancer, it is a simple imaginary line, then you leave for the fascinating white dune, which is a natural phenomenon, thanks to the wind corridors we have the privilege of enjoying this majestic dune. Then we will visit the Assmae spring, and we end at the oyster farm. * The restaurant visit is only available for hotels in Dakhla city * Drivers who speak French, English and Spanish are not always available.

Come with us for a mildly intense, low-paced adventure during which we'll search for the tracks left by desert animals, look for desert birds, explore the geology and evolution of a spectacular and fragile ecosystem, learn about the ancient and recent history of the site, look for fossils and neolithic tools, and experience highlights of the local culture. Wondering why Imlili is so important? Our guide will tease you offering small clues throughout the first part of the journey, building up a climax that will eventually be resolved once at the sebkha and will be further complemented with observations on the way back. Important note: The Sebkha of Imili is a unique and fragile ecosystem to be visited with respect and care – we will not allow our guests to “feed the fish”, nor to bath or have “fish pedicure” (also as per local rules).
