Grandpa goes on a Walk

What a waste of time and money! Gerard showed up late. There didn’t appear to be any organization to the tour. The guide began by talking very broadly about Ennis and then said “let’s see, what should we see? “ he showed us the new abbey and said we could enter if we wanted, but didn’t go in himself. Then we walked to the old abbey that the tour description said we would include a tour inside. He stated no tour! It was privately run! It was taking grandpa for a walk! He kept repeating himself and shuffled for a few paces then stopped through out. We told him repeatly we were on a tight schedule. We started at the Clare Museum then ended right back at Clare in the middle of the tour, and then continued on from there. We ended up leaving the tour that was supposed to start at 1pm at 2:45 without finishing it.

I am sorry that the Ennis Walking Tour did not meet your expectations and for any shortfalls you experienced. I would, however, like to clarify a few points for the benefit of future guests reading this review. On the day of your tour, unexpected roadworks caused significant disruption getting into the town. I contacted you in advance to advise you of the delay, and I apologise again for the inconvenience caused. You had booked our public Ennis walking tour, rather than our private tour. The public tour focuses on the town’s history, streetscape, heritage and principal attractions, with entrance to certain buildings subject to opening arrangements. Our private tours offer a more flexible experience and can include Guided interior visits to the Ennis Franciscan Abbey and local churches, where access can be arranged. I am also sorry that the pace of the tour did not suit your schedule. During the tour, you mentioned that you were working to a tight timetable, and I did my best to accommodate this. You ultimately chose to leave before the scheduled conclusion of the tour. As a result, you missed a further seven attractions that formed part of the planned itinerary. I was also disappointed to read that the tour was described as lacking historical content. I regularly encourage guests to ask questions and engage with the stories and history of Ennis, and I felt that there were relatively few opportunities for follow-up discussion during this particular tour. I understand that every visitor has different expectations and, on this occasion, the tour clearly did not match yours. Nevertheless, I do hope this clarification helps provide some context for future guests considering an Ennis walking tour with us.
