Mario was a delight. Very knowledgeable and engaging. He kept a teaching-style dialogue going with the group which kept everyone focused in present!
If you want a guide that is truly passionate and knowledgeable Mario is amazing! He made the tour a journey of creation
We had a unique and wonderful tour with Mario—he opened our eyes to much more than just the David itself (and the other Michelangelo statues), he helped us to learn and grow in the process. Go with an open mind—this is not your typical art tour.
Forget the rest - this is the BEST. Mario was an exceptionally engaging and knowledgeable guide focusing on Michelangelo’s works. The depth of meaning he revealed beneath Michelangelo’s works was inspiring and thought-provoking. What a remarkable guide and a refreshingly meaningful tour of a deep thinker and creator - the incredible Michelangelo! We had free time to explore the galley afterwards. The price does NOT include the entry ticket. So ensure you calculate this in. Worth every cent!
Our tour guide, Mario was amazing! He was very passionate and involved all participants. I learned so much and recommend his tour to friends and family.
Mario had an knowledgeable and interesting take on the sculpture of Michaelangelo. He's a very entertaining guide.
Enthusiastic guide but were quite late getting started with the tour which only included 3-4 works of Michelangelo and a lot of talking. Not really suitable for someone who is not an art history enthusiast. Also museum tickets NOT included in the price.
Tour is definitely the only way to go!
Guide was passionate and very knowledgeable, and explained Michaelangelo's thought process. Highly recommended!!
Mario Gesu was the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide! He has a sincere love and passion for Michelangelo! He’s even written books about him. We left with a greater understanding of the artist, his works and the magnificent city of Florence!
Mario was great. I li e when you get a guide who is actually passionate about the subject (in this case Michaelangelo) we truly loved this tour
Guide is a Florence native with great personal charisma and a unique perspective on the meaning of Michelangelo’s art. Without trying to summarize his perspective, it will provoke thought and conversation, even self examination.
Wow, wow, WOW!!! Possibly the VERY BEST we ever took!!!! Mario, our tour guide, is not only a guide, but an art historian with powerful understanding of how art, culture, philosophy, and faith intertwine. His ability to take into perspective greater picture of the time and intertwine with today - made the entire tour so much more than just a museum talk… all while remembering each tour group members name, engaging everyone’s getting kids to participate, adults experiencing artworks in the most fundamental way. Above and beyond any possible expectations!!
What a great tour with Mario he was so knowledgeable and very entertaining. If you can get a tour with him you will have a wonderful experience.
Our tour guide Mario did an amazing job discussing the creation process of Michelangelo's David! He has a lot of energy and interacted with all of us on the tour! My family would definitely book a tour with him next time we are in Florence!!
This was the perfect length tour for my family, which included a 6 and 8 year old. Mario was super engaging and does a masterful job building on the knowledge you’re learning to allow for everyone to keep up and understand more about Michelangelo’s process. Highly recommended!!
Mario was very knowledgeable and provided a lot of in depth information. He is very passionate about the subject matter.
So worth getting the perspective of our specific tour guide, Mauricio. Such a greater appreciation for the David, but also prepared us to see the Sistine Chapel in Rome. Skip-the-line is the only way to go!
Mario was a very knowledgeable guide regarding a deeper understanding of Michael Angelo creations sharing a deep, spiritual meaning that his creations were born from.
Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an energetic and fascinating experience beyond just getting a few photos for social media.
Mario was a knowledgeable, charismatic, and engaging guide making an effort to learn everyone’s names and involve them in the experience, especially the young ones in the group.
We entered the museum at the expected time and began with a view of David and an introduction to Mario’s interesting theories on Michelangelo’s process and deeper meanings in the art. Like the opening paragraph in an essay, this set the tone for the remainder of the tour where we went back to the beginning of the museum and Mario began to illustrate how he’s come to his conclusions.
As others have noted, he does mention his written works and that he does other tours but less in an “upsell” manner and more to inform about opportunities to gain more from his in depth research.
Given the size of the group and how crowded the museum was, we were each given a radio and earpiece which allowed us to hear Mario no matter where we stood.
The tour focuses on the main hall of the museum so, if you want to see the side rooms with paintings and other sculptures, be sure to allot an extra 15-30 minutes.
I’m very glad that we booked this tour and I expect we’ll be looking up Mario again on our next visit to this amazing city!
To sum it up in a quick quote. He is the best of the best. Truly an in-depth and engaging experience.
Mario was great, he got us right in, no wait, and brought the whole experience to life with his stories and detailed analysis of the times.
This was the best tour I took in Italy. I learned so much and came to understand Michelangelo as a person and an artist in a way I never had before.
The tour was amazing! I learned far more about Michelangelo than I ever expected, and it gave me a whole new appreciation for his work. Mario was captivating, knowledgeable, and made the experience unforgettable.
Mario was incredibly informative and passionate about Michelangelo. We learned a lot and had a great time. 💯 you want Mario as your guide!
Mario is an amazing tour guide. His tour is unique, animated, informative and interactive. He really cares about the art, history, and teaching the meaning behind the most famous art pieces in the world. Best tour we have ever taken. He learned everyone’s names and was friendly the entire tour. I was never bored!
Booked this completely last minute on the same day and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. Mario was an exceptional guide — engaging, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the work. The tour felt interactive rather than a standard lecture, which made the whole experience come alive. I walked away with a real appreciation for Michelangelo’s genius that I simply wouldn’t have gotten wandering through on my own. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Florence, especially if you’re new to art history — Mario has a wonderful way of making it accessible and exciting for everyone
It was a very engaging tour. Guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared many interesting insights way beyond surface information. He was very passionate and kept the group engaged the entire time.

it was a great tour! The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and detailed. We learned so much with him and would 100% recommend.
Tour guide was late and arrived with dirty clothes on. Tour was suppose to start at 11:30 and didn’t start until 12:00. He talked about the creation of Adam the entire time

Our tour guide started off, not making me happy. He was a few minutes late and we had been told to be there 15 minutes early. And my husband and I both appreciate punctuality… But he quickly made me like him with his enthusiasm and personality. It was very fun to learn all about Michelangelo with him. And my husband, I learned so much that day… but again I think the tour guide needs to show up 15 minutes early so when we get there, we can find them.
